Really great day. Museum really good. New photographic display upstairs was excellent. Abbey was also brilliant. The whole village was really good, not too commercial, just a village going about its business as always.

“History In The Making”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

When visiting the beautiful village of lacock, know for is backdrop to many films and TV shows, you should take time to visit this museum.

When you see the first photograph ever taken, it makes ones hair stand on end. The world owes so much to Fox Talbot, but few know of him. The museum is not large but it's collection of artifacts including the first glass plate negative and Fox Talbot's original cameras make the visit very worth while.

Highly recommended !

“Something for everyone”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

The Fox Talbot Museum and the Abbey provide a great day out for the whole family. The NT staff are willing to chat and the atmosphere of the abbey is wonderful, especially in the cloisters. There was a curious parasol style sculpture in the grounds which could be spun around to demonstrate the changes in light from the prisms set in the filigree ribs. The museum shows all sorts of information for the serious photographer and can be enjoyed by the average person as well. The current exhibition upstairs is The Theatre of Insects by Jo Whaley and entranced the whole family so much we went back for a second look later!

“Photographic shrine”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

The building was pleasant and interesting, the exhibition was well displayed and accessible even to people with small interest in the development of photography. Excuse the pun! I wouldn't want to live in the extremely picturesque environment of the village, but you will find a typical english tea if you need one, or maybe more.

“Good day out”
Reviewed September 29, 2012 via mobile

The abbey and grounds are lovely and if you're a Harry potter fan this is definitely worth a visit, as many scenes were filmed in the cloisters and surrounding rooms. The fox museum and gallery are interesting but I think someone interested or involved in photography would get more out of this area. Overall a lovely day out and well worth a visit.
