It's a very traditional pub with excellent views. The best time to go is in the summer when it is warm enough to sit outside and takie in the lovely views.

Have had a few meals her now and the food has come on a treat. The food is classic country pub fare but with a modern stylish twist (still good portions though!) fresh and wholesome. The steaks and I believe all of the meat is sourced from a traditional butcher in Bath with some coming from Stiles' the Wiltshire butcher. The steaks are superb, properly aged and tender. The battered cod is huge. The chips........now these are chips, hand peeled and cut by the two young chefs who appear to take great delight in serving up a really decent meal. Prices I think are average for the area.
The pub itself is extremely clean to the point of OCD! but don't let that put you off. There are two open fires, with scrubbed wooden tables in the bar, there is a conservatory to the rear used as a dining room but is also warm and cosy. Plenty of local memorabilia, pictures and brilliant taxidermy samples (my personal favourite). There is a large car park adjoining the garden with views towards west wiltshire, Cley hill Warminster, the Salisbury plain escarpment and on a clear day Somerset and the Mendip transmitter, all in all "one hell of a view".
The beer is mainly Moles as it is a Moles brewery house, with Best and Molecatcher plus seasonal variations. I think I saw Black Rat cider and the usual lagers one of which was Amstel.
A very good pub.

It's worth going on a warmer day then we did, simply to sit and admire the veiw. The food is good and hearty, and the service pleasant. It's a traditional country pub. charmingly rustic but modern enough to make it enjoyable.

We set out to Lacock knowing there was a nice pub for lunch and a nearby garden centre where we could browse and maybe buy some Christmas decorations. Went to the said pub and realised they were closed because of a wedding party. A bit disappointed we went on up the hill and found the Rising Sun and what a find it was ! A lovely welcome from the staff, a real fire and they had just put out their Christmas menu. Husband had the Christmas dinner which he told me was one of the best he'd ever had and I had a very tasty rissoto. The garden looks fantastic with lovely views over the Wiltshire countryside so will be back in the summer for sure ! If you're in Lacock my advice is give this place a go !

Six of us went here for Sunday lunch, including 2 children (6 & 8) and we were welcomed perfectly and the staff have the perfect balance of service and friendliness. The conservatory was super and the view amazing. We all really enjoyed the wonderful meal.. exceptional beef and plenty of it, vegs were perfectly cooked ... couldn't eat a dessert, too full!! The gentleman was so lovely with the children and we all felt that we will return when we visit the grandchildren again.. highly recommended!!
