“Nice atmosphere and friendly staff”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

I stopped here to meet a friend for lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My lunch was tasty, well presented and it arrived in good time. The exterior of the pub was used for the filming of the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice as the 'Meryton Assembly Rooms' which is interesting for anyone who is a fan of the series. The only downside was the choice of modern music playing, which seemed at odds with the historical setting.

“Why were staff stopped lighting the Fire?”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

It's Nearest pub to Abby
Visited for a drink. on a cold January
As usual Wine plus beer over £7 but unfortunatly for a lot of pubs this is typical.
Wine is seen as a cash cow in most pubs.
Wine was however very good.
The fire at the far end was not lit.
Another couple asked for it to be lit which a member of the staff did.
Only to be told by the 'Manager' that they were not allowed to light it.
Why? Part of visiting a pub in the winter is for a nice roaring fire.
There was only tables and chairs a few easy chairs and sofas would be nice.

“Nice location, pleasant staff”

I had roast lamb, was a nice meal, hot and good gravy. Lamb was a bit tough but tasted nice. Service great, wifi and very friendly! I'd stop by again.

“Great pub food”
Reviewed January 19, 2013 via mobile

We had lunch here. The food was tasty and a good portion size. They were busy but we didn't wait long at all.
The staff were friendly and the pub had a nice relaxed tone.
Would eat here again.

“Warm, friendly ambience on a cold January dat”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

During a trip to Lacock to see the National Trust sites, we decided to eat out at The Red Lion. There was a good range of food which was freshly cooked and arrived quickly. The range of drinks was impressive too, especially having mulled wine to warm the cockles. Open fires and plentiful candles really added to olde worlde ambience on a miserable Winter's day.
