It is some years since we visited Ockenden Manor and we were much looking forward to our return. However, although the food has retained its (excellent) quality and the service was friendly and efficient, the restaurant surroundings were a little underwhelming. Previously we had particularly enjoyed the historic atmosphere of the original dining room which has been replaced by a pleasant, larger but somewhat soulless extension. We had a most enjoyable meal with three excellent courses and some very tasty appetisers but for us it just lacked any real ambience, even though the restaurant staff worked very hard to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. All rather picky we know but given the expense perhaps it is not unreasonable to expect genuinely fine dining?

I was amazed there was no turkey on the menu four days from Christmas day, apart from that the food was excellent. The service was a little on the slow side, tables too close together, unbelievably noisy. If you want a romantic, intimate dinner then think again.

Went there last night with my boss and his three other secretaries and once again the whole experience was superb, starting with drinks (expensive) and exquisite little bites served and then on to the restaurant where everything was brilliant. I had oysters, duck and the cheese board (wow!) and little sweets were served with the coffee, all in all another extremely pleasant experience. My boss was very happy with the choice of restaurant. The whole team headed by the wonderful Maitre d' were superb, how they remembered which knives and forks to give for the appropriate meals was pretty impressive!

Four friends dinned and three of us loved every course... I had the oysters threes ways, sublime..mmmmhhh followed by the melting beef cheeks, I can still salivate over the thought of them now even though is been three weeks since our visit (sorry for delay in my review).
Our host had the duck and left it, he said it was tough, he will never complain and full marks to the manager who noted his full plate and enquired as to why!!!
Staff great and attentive, my food wonderful just a quack away from my five star!! We will be back !!!
