hi.
just want to mention about our last visit last sunday for 3 friends who were celebrating their afternoon teas birthday.
in arrival we been waiting with few other peoples for about 10 minutes before someone appear from somewhere .
i do think as we are few of us in catering, know about when you come somewhere is always important to have someone at the door.to welcome you.
then expecting to have a great service then last time ,we deciding walking threw the lounge to sit down and found our table.but no table there set up for us .we have to move some extra chairs around and then the waiter appear and just say tea for everyone, without even giving me a hand to move that chair, or ask us what teas would you like.
then few minute later he came with a table cloth, then mugs and soccer and leave the pot of tea on table without even serving us.well as we know ockenden manor is a place were you expect the waiter to fold the napkins and put it on your lap for you.
no nothing at all like that.the sandwiches arriving on a tray ,looking like they been cut by a child, then follow by scones and cakes who were probably the best part of it.we did ask for more tea and is always been the same tea pot with new hot water and only one tea bag in ,very weak tea and not really good at all,i was expecting earl grey tea as is better ,and no-one never asked me.
then we been left for nearly an hour and we deciding to go and pay.but when my husband went to the reception to pay, he as to tell the girl who he was and what did he have because she didnt have a clue who we were.we could leave by the back window ,no-one will even see it.
but please if you work at the reception it would be nice to not having your dinner with you.i did think that wasn't really professionnal,
i did think maybe more staff be better.so i will think about coming back or not.

This is our third trip back to Ockendon Manor and i have to say it was not a disappointment! We stayed in the 'Charles' room this time which was very nice and comfortable.

Dinner was excellent lovely canapes, fantastic wine and an excellent choice of food available. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Spa was a revelation! It wasn't open last time we stayed to we went in on Sunday and Monday and it was just fantastic. Very quiet in the outdoor pool and very relaxing. We didn't have any treatments this time but will make sure we book some next time. Staff were very helpful when someone had walked off with my dressing gown with my locker key in it!

Looking forward to coming back in the near future.

One night stay to celebrate a special birthday. We were upgraded to the Raymond room. Very spacious and quiet. Lovely bed but overall the room was tired and needs work e.g. nowhere to plug a hairdryer in near a mirror. Bathroom was OK but also needs work. Restaurant was superb. The lovely manager spent time helping us choose wine to suit our tastes, meal choices and budget. Every aspect of the meal was excellent - as good a dinner as I have eaten anywhere. The next morning breakfast also very good. The real star of Ockenden these days is the spa. A beautiful building which is a real haven to relax and unwind in. Fluffy robes and towels provided and somewhere worth spending time even when not in the pool, steam room, sauna etc.

One disappointment was reception. On arrival we weren't asked had we stayed before, how was our journey and on departure nobody asked if we had enjoyed the stay and wished us a safe journey home. Minor points but this suggests a lack of finesse about aspects of the service which is a surprise.

Not the greatest hotel we've stayed in and for our 10th wedding anniversary it was a little disappointing. The room was very spacious (Raymond) but a little tired and the bathroom was awful. We arrived 10 minutes after lunch finished and were therefor refused entry into the restaurant so had to settle for a chewy roast beef sandwich.
The evening valentines dinner was really nice but they forgot to add happy 10th anniversary on our plates as a surprise for my wife, then the waiter decided to top up my wine glass with water! The other point worth mentioning was that we were expecting to eat in a really nice old English dinning room, so the conservatory style room was a bit of a shock, albeit it was very smart and modern.
Breakfast was ok (wouldn't serve a english breakfast in the room)but we were told the toaster was broken and we couldn't have toast, until I suggested that they grill it!!??
Overall I would recommend eating there but not staying.

Love Ockenden. We went first as a surprise for my girlfriend back in November and had such a great time we've ended up coming back three times since.

The food is fantastic, the staff are almost all friendly, and the spa is great. i strongly recommend the spa suites - beautiful rooms.

There were a few tiny little issues, but nothing that stopped us coming back again and again. In fact just writing this review makes me want to book again - love it!

Beautifull rooms, gorgeous food, attentive staff, log fires and a lovely quiet spa as part of the package. Can't imagine what else you would need for a couple of days away from the kiddies.
We stayed here before the spa opened and this has made it even more enticing for a recharge the batteries weekend. It's a bit pricey, even when you book through a seasonal deal but you are getting a taste of the luxury lifestyle you deserve. Spa was very quiet and i was often only one in the indoor/outdoor pool which was lovely and warm so you have to ignore the feeling you are helping to melt he ice caps to have it heated. You do need to book treatments early as they were fully booked when we wanted to add to what we had pre-booked.
We will be going again when we we can arrange for our babysitters.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding in August. The hotel has a lovely ambience and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small but nicely decorated - country style rather than chic, but still lovely.
The wedding itself was great, with quite tasty food (although quite small portions) and it was nice to be able to make use of the lovely grounds as it got warm in the disco room.
Communal areas had lots of comfy seating for relaxing.
Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice and served in a really lovely room.
The spa is fabulous - it's in a separate, modern building (which does have spa rooms attached to it, that are very stylish and modern). The facilities are great. The pool is a good size and it has a small outdoor pool connected to the main indoor pool, which I loved. Also an outside and inside jacuzzi. Changing facilities good, and my favourite REN products in the shower! Didn't have any treatments.
Overall I'd recommend Ockenden to anyone. Think the only improvement could be a minor update in some of the older rooms, but this doesn't detract from the loveliness.

Room Tip: If you want larger, modern style, go for the spa rooms. They don't have the ambience and charm o...
