“Idyllic, wish we could have stayed longer”
Reviewed July 22, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We stayed for a week in July and had a wonderful time, we only wish we could have stayed longer. This house is a fabulous eclectic mix, from the entrance through the old Chapel, the pink 1970's bathroom to the conservatory with mesmerizing sea views . In addition there are sea views from most rooms and the sound of the waves will soothe you to sleep. The tropical garden is vast and varied, everything was in flower including plants in the conservatory.

It is walking distance from the harbour with choices of places to eat, plus on the edge of many walking paths.

“A little slice of paradise”
Reviewed September 25, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We were looking for somewhere quiet and relaxed, and found Chapel Knap as a last minute short break, and it delivered everything we could have wanted, and more.

The house is amazing, both comfortable and fascinating, with amazing architecture, surrounded by mature gardens, with views over Porlock and Hurlstone Point, and every window offers a different view.

The pictures on the website really don't come close to what this house is really like. We were lucky with the weather, but even in bad weather, sitting in the amazing garden room, complete with bougainvillea, would be lovely , just watching the weather sweep across the bay.

It's an easy 5 minute walk down to Porlock Weir with a bit of a hill walking back, past pretty cottages and wonderful views. We walked from the house every day, and you really don't need your car as there are so many walks right from the door.

It has been a pleasure to be able to stay in this wonderful place, which is clearly a home as well, and that makes it all the more special.

“Perfect Location, Spectacular Coastal Views, Large Tropical Garden and Spacious House with Comfort and Character”
Reviewed July 10, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

First of all you should know that the four of us voted this the best holiday home we have ever rented in the UK and we have stayed in many. The location is unbeatable, a ten minute easy walk to the (to us!) surprisingly buzzy and picturesque but not touristy Porlock Weir with its choice of restaurants and cafes at reasonable prices and easy access to Porlock and Minehead by car and bus. There are numerous walks if you are reasonably fit as the area is hilly but for older folk (we are aged from 66-72) a gentle walk along the flat coastal path to Porlock is very enjoyable. When walking by Porlock Marsh we saw four Little Eagrets, one of which was nesting. Strong shoes with ankle support are required as the first short stretch is across pebbles of various size. If you time it right you can catch the bus back, which runs every two hours. The spacious garden room including the kitchen and dining room, has a very comfortable seating area where we spent most of our time indoors. The views of the perfumed garden, sheltered by mature trees and bushes, and nearby Porlock Bay are truly stunning! On warm days we threw open the double doors on either side, also the double windows, basking in the gently cooling through draft. The kitchen has high quality appliances and includes a large refrigerator with small ice compartment and a second smaller fridge. Although the work surface is small and the cupboard space for provisions minimal (not a problem due to easy access to Tesco and Morrisons on the outskirts of Minehead) we were able to cook several meals in rather than eating out. The house itself is much larger than we expected with big rooms. The adjacent lounge has a VERY large new television and two big sofas but we only used this room to watch the European Cup football matches. The largest of the two bathrooms is enormous and all of the bedrooms are well furnished and comfortable with high quality bed linen, towels and toiletries provided. The house is old and as such has quirks that, whilst of little concern to us, wouldn't suit visitors who expect everything to work perfectly all of the time. For example hot water is readily accessible but only if you leave the tap running for what seems likea long time. Although the owner is unconcerned about the impact on her water meter - caring only for the comfort of her guests - we found it convenient to use the shower and bath in turn as the supply of hot water, once accessed, was more than generous. The upstairs area is so large that we left the landing light on at night as it was easy to get lost on your way to and from the bathroom. Best of all is the truly beautiful garden, so sheltered that oranges are growing on a small tree in one of the small gardens. Everything is in flower and smells wonderful. As well as a sheltered patio with table and chairs, there is a larger area with a bench, big enough for children to run around. Paths wind around the small woodland sheltering the garden, the whole a paradise, especially for children who can be left to play in a secure environment. Must see places to visit include Dunster Castle and It's mediaeval village (park in the Castle car park and walk directly into the village), Dunkery Beacon and it's surrounding moor, the National Trust's Holnicote Estate with numerous walks for all abilities, WatersMeet at Lynton, Minehead, etc etc. Will we be returning to this little piece of heaven? You bet!!!

“A perfect property in perfect Porlock Weir”
Reviewed August 17, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

My family and I spend a week away in a holiday let with the dogs most summers. Never before have we felt more at home than we felt in this gorgeous house. The pictures on the website don't give the beauty and scale of the gardens justice. They are beautifully kept, and are full of hidden corners making it equally ideal for playing children and romantic couples. The views from the garden are stunning, and dinner on the terrace with the sun setting has left me with some wonderful memories. Inside is just as impressive. The conservatory/kitchen/living area is wonderful room, ideal for family board games. All the bedrooms are spacious, and have large beds (even the single beds). The family bathroom is more of a dressing room, complete with chaise lounge. The owner actually lives in the house for most of the year, so every room has a really homely feel. The only slight negative is the kitchen. It is on the small side, and only had one frying pan, which made morning fry ups for 6 adults tricky. I don't believe in giving 5 stars in reviews if there are any negatives, but this house is so fantastic that it deserves 5 stars even with the kitchen.

“Wonderful house with magical garden and fabulous sea view”
Reviewed August 17, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Fabulous... although the whole house is lovely we spent most of our time when we were inside, in the bright conservatory admiring the magical garden and spectacular sea view. It is a real home, and a beautiful one and spotlessly clean. The garden is a real jewel, with interesting paths and something gorgeous which every way you turn. A complete paradise for children, I imagine.
The position of the house is also perfect, with a short walk down to Porlock Wier, with it's pretty harbour, cosy pub with grub and restaurant serving good food.
Highly recommended.
