“Fantastic holiday cottage !”
Reviewed April 28, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

St. Anthony's cottage has to be one of the very best holiday cottages I have stayed in. The layout of the house works extremely well in that the bedrooms are on the ground floor with patio doors from each bedroom leading out onto decking areas where you can sit and admire the beautiful views. The upper floor has been utilised to its best, which includes a large open plan living area/kitchen/dining space with a huge sliding window which opens to reveal outstanding views of the sea. We were extremely lucky with the weather during our stay which enabled us to sit in the large private garden and enjoy the sunshine. My only criticism would be the lack of garden furniture. For such a beautiful and not inexpensive place to stay I would have expected sun loungers to be available for guests to utilise during their holiday (there are only 4 chairs and a small table, with a benched seating area). We did contact the housekeeper who let us know there were 2 very old chairs in the shed but these were torn and not able to be used. Access to the garden would also be problematic for anyone with mobility issues as it is quite a steep walkway from the cottage. The cottage and Porlock Weir itself are well worth visiting and we definitely hope to be back next year.

“Very beautiful cottage but not without issues”
Reviewed December 17, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

The main thing to say is that this is a beautifully laid out and designed cottage. The top floor is open plan living area and kitchen/dining, all orientated out the wide window area with a great view of the coast. Ground floor is two bedrooms and bathrooms. It is very attractive on the inside and in particular the top floor is really nice. I have stayed many places in this area, but this is one of my favorite for just sitting in the cottage and looking out. Free and fast internet also helped ease the days away with the view outside, while the log burner helped make the top quite warm.

It is not perfect though. The wood fire helps upstairs, but the rest of the cottage is storage heaters. Not sure if they were on before we arrived but the first night was 13-15 degrees inside the cottage, particularly the groundfloor. As the storage heating ramped up over coming days it got more comfortable, but hard to control and sometimes too warm. This is the downside of storage heating – you can't immediately change temperatures, but this was only a problem on the first (very cold) night. Access is pretty tight too – we have a medium sized car and it was a 5-6 point maneuver to get in through the gates – I would hate to do it alone – the wooden posts on the gates shows signs of others struggling. I was also surprised by things not working as they should; the dishwasher setting 1 doesn't work (sounds like it is, but isn’t); the ipod speaker station doesn't work; the pretty tree lights in the window go on and off if you even look at the cord, the shaving light in the bathroom and the external light need new bulbs, and there is at least one thing noted in the margin of the guide book which says "this does not work" to others. I would stress that all of these are minor and did not really affect my enjoyment of the property – but it was a surprise.

I was a bit surprised how many little things like this were all in one place, but I would for sure return here again because it is the most beautiful of the places I have stayed, although when I return I will be bringing the smaller of our cars, and maybe some portable heaters to help cover the storage heaters while they charge up (although in summer I guess this is less of an issue).

“A beautiful view and 1st Class facilities = PERFECTION!!”
Reviewed November 3, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing weekend in this gorgeous place. Enjoyed a log fire whilst taking in the stunning sea view from the lounge.
Days were filled with long woodland walks and exploring Culbone Church, finished off by a fantastic Cream Tea at The Cafe…Definitely worth a visit.

“Amazing sea views”
Reviewed August 19, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We were fortunate enough to grab a cancellation here for 5 nights and I am so glad we did. The apartment is fantastic and makes the most of its far reaching sea views by having the lounge upstairs. Although the views from the bedrooms are good too. No need for a TV (although there is one) as you tend to sit and watch the views instead. The bedrooms have a balcony with seating so you can enjoy the sea views. When you wake up in the morning you look out on to the sea. The apartment is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. I could quite happily live there and didn't want to leave. It was perfect.

We arrived to find not only tea, coffee and milk, but also a nice bottle of wine.

Directions were spot on and booking was trouble free.

Porlock Weir is ideal for walking and exploring further afield. There are some good eating places within walking distance.

We have already recommended and hope to go back ourselves.
