“great!”

Tasty food, particularly the chocolate fudge cake. Lovely washroom and above all else excellent service. Staff went out of their way to accommodate our large party (there were 10 of us) and were extremely pleasant.

My other half had ham and mustard also with trimminngs. We ordered a side dish of chips which I have to say we're the best chips ever. a fantastic lunch and I certainly recommend it.they also do rooms, haven't stayed but it looks lovely and

“Clean and tidy lunch venue”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

A look at the two pubs at Porlock Weir led us to investigate The Café and we were really glad we did. In a good location and in clean, tidy and modern condition the Café had just the sort of menu we needed for lunch, We could have pre-odered a Seafood specail (24 hours notice for lobster, crab, etc) but the small selection was ample and I had a ploughmans, Mrs P the Smoked Salmon sandwich, Also available wasWelsh Rarebit, Fish and Chips and variousother things suitable for lunch. We could have had wine or beers but had a good pot of tea and a couple of interesting soft drinks. All in all, and for £28, very good indeed.

“Just Right for Afternoon Tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

Porlock Weir doesn't have a lot of choice but the Cafe is by far the best place there for a stop off. This is especially so as the local pub, which also does food, is pretty grim. Whilst I've only visited the Cafe for a sandwich and coffee I do recognise quality when I see it. The staff are very friendly too and are helpful to a fault. Only one suggestion - more vegetarian choice would be good.

“Ideal for a rich Welsh speaking recluse on a diet”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

Be aware that there is no mobile phone signal, no Internet, no wifi and only Welsh TV channels.
If you want tissues, face flannels or a piece of soap, bring your own. But there again we did only pay £137.50 for B&B and that did give access to a Jacuzzi which took an age to fill from dribbling taps. We were also provided with two tea bags and one packet of biscuits in the room.
The dinner menu was limited, quality average, and prices high (£9 for English cheeses with toast). The wine list was pricey and short and several of the better wines were 'out of stock'. Incidentally, their website wine price list is today out of date. Other reviewers give good reports of the £30 a head seafood tasting menu, but this is only available at 24 hours notice.
At breakfast the hard bacon and tomatoes were left uneaten on our plates, but we were offered a replacement for the apple juice which we and other guests could not drink because it had fermented. We were also given two slices of toast, one bite-sized pain au chocolat and one bite-sized croissant to share between two. I suppose we could have asked for more (it was not offered, nor was more coffee), but the heating had failed and we were sitting in our fleeces looking at snow flurries outside and were anxious to get in the car to warm up.
Of course, a heating failure is just unfortunate and bad luck for us and others there that evening. A good service point is that we were given, unasked, an extra blanket for our four-poster bed.
