The Royal Oak Inn is by far the best "Old World" Traditional" Inn on Exmoor. Seasonal Menu that changes as the week progresses. Good selection of beers, ales etc. This is a real piece of Exmoor. Oh and at reasonable prices!!

Whilst staying with friends on Exmoor we took the opportunity of having lunch at The Royal Oak, after a rather wet walk! Having a dog with us, we asked if it would be OK to bring him in, the answer was a very pleasant " Yes, of course". The menu in the lounge bar was very comprehensive and offered a interesting variety. Our order was taken and the meal delivered, and what a substantial meal it was, delicious ham and the most tasty eggs with a good portion of home cooked chips and a delicious salad. My friend had the fresh fish, which was cooked to a very high standard, along with a couple of pints of the `black stuff` we were replete. I would certainly point hungry travellers to this delightful Inn. Well done to all at the Royal Oak, will be back.

Stopped off on walk from Exford for lunch. Certainly a pub with a history. Quick service and very helpful and pleasant waitress. Dog friendly which was a bonus although in retrospect we didn't spot a dog bowl but had our own. I had a plough mans lunch which I would happily have again. It's good you can also have tea and coffee as well as alcohol

We chose to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant as it was more informal and relaxed. We enjoyed our food which was only 'average' but thought it expensive for the bar and the price more suited to the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and the service good

Jakes Bar in the Royal Oak is the place to be on a Saturday night if you want local Exmoor food in room which is thronged with locals, many in riding gear on their way home from one of the several local Hunts which attract so many equestrian visitors to the Moor. Indeed the beamed and cozy bar is practically a museum of local Hunting. The food is generous and tasty ,often imaginative and always good value . I have stayed their for weekends and just popped in but can vouche for the fact that its a friendly place and a really good place to stay with superb rooms. It is the quintessential Devon Pub with open fires and fine Ales.
