We stayed here overnight and were disappointed. the room and hotel is tired and needs a major upgrade. The bed and en suite were clean. The en suite is miniscule in the corner of the room and shower is even smaller - anyone above average size will not be able to fit into it.
This hotel is leased by HF Holiday (which runs guided walking tours around the world) and they are aiming to purchase it this year. That's ok , except if they have a group of walkers booked into the hotel - then they appear to get preference over rooms - we could not get a room with the splendid views over the hills and valley - we had a view at the front looking over the car park and trees. The dining room was taken over by the walkers - we ate in the bar bistro (which is ok) but we were constrained on the times we could eat , because of the priority to feed the walkers. The food was average. The floor in some of the common areas are at different levels with small steps , which a trip hazzard. The hotel is in a good location , on a hill on top of the village - but it needs a major rehabilitation. I would look for alternative accommodation if I ever want to stay in the area again.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere - there must be better value for money around the area.

First the positives. The hotel is set in woodland with wonderful views of Longmynd, You can walk from the hotel straight onto one of the many paths in the area or into Church Stretton. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The bedrooms are spacious and clean and some have views over the hills (although our room was facing the car park but still had trees to look at). The breakfast was great; very well cooked and plenty of choice.

Unfortunately this is a hotel designed for package holiday makers (the hotel is part of the HF Holiday group). A few independent travellers stay there but you get the feeling that you are not really important. Meals are taken in the lounge as the dining room is taken over by the large package groups (who have separate meals). We ate one dinner in the hotel but we were not very impressed with the food. We ordered roast lamb but when it arrived it was lamb curry! They did allow us to reorder but not a good start to our two day break. (The next day we drove into Ludlow and had an excellent meal at the Olive Branch). The hotel is also badly in need of refurbishment, particularly the bedrooms. The beds were comfortable and bathroom fine but no fridge in the room which you would expect for the price. The hotel boasts free internet but it is such a bother having to log in everytime you want to use it that we gave up.

The normal nightly rate is £115 which is far too expensive and you are clearly paying for the location. We did get £20 off by booking through Booking.Com but still too expensive for what you get and we wouldn't go back.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the hills but you probably have to do this by booking with the hotel direc...

We have just returned from a weeks walking on and around the Long Mynd. The hotel has just bee taken over on a five year lease by H F Hoiidays. Some improvements have already been made with others on the way. Our comfortable room was No 24 (Falcon) with views over the swimming pool and the valley beyond. We did have a problem getting hot water (we had to let the tap run for a good few minutes each time). Hopefully this is going to be one of the improvements that H F will make. The food was as always at an H F House excellent and plentyful, the staff friendly and Brithsh. The grounds of the hotel are well worth a stroll with many wood carvings scattered throughout.

I visited this hotel with a relative for one night and found that it was definitely a different sort of hotel in that it had style and elegance. Although the building had been a hotel for more than forty years i think, it certainly had retained its character and was very welcoming, clean and also friendly and efficient staff. The bedroom was spacious enough for two people so that we had our own `space` and were not tripping up over each other. the buffet breakfast was one of the best yet that i have had. The downfall was the time of the year when we visited was in the autumn and therefore the countryside was misty and we were unable to take advantage of the lovely walking areas surrounding the hotel.

A group of residents from Roman Downs recently visited The Long Mynd Hotel for an afternoon tea. We were made very welcome by the friendly staff and the afternoon tea was exceptionally good; it could not have been better.

We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Many thanks to everyone for looking after us so well. We most certainly will be back .

I recently stayed as a guest with HF Holidays who have recently bought the hotel. On arrival I was dealt with courteously and allocated my room which was very spacious although a little outdated (1970s decor?) but containing a modern ensuite bathroom. The main course of the evening dinners tended to be overcooked (this especially applied to meat courses) and heavily spiced, but the starters and sweets were excellent. Full English breakfast offered an excellent choice and was of good quality. The public areas were spacious and warm and the bar well stocked although the service could be slow when busy. One of the main features of the hotel is its location situated on the slopes of Long Mynd overlooking the market town of Church Stretton. There are extensive grounds adjoining the hotel and a large car park. I would certainly go there again and have no hesitation in recommending it.

This Hotel is now operated by HF Holidays and although the restaurant is not of the standard it was when I went there many years a go, the food is tasty, good quality and well cooked with good choices of 3 or 4 for each course. Breakfasts are excellent and copious. The packed lunches for walkers cannot be faulted. The rooms are large, comfortable and well equipped although I have little grouses at the lack of a hook in the bathroom, a decent light near the dressing table and a very awkward point to use the hairdryer, I don't think this applied to other rooms. If they had put up a shower screen in our bathroom it would have made it more convenient for shower or bath. The views and grounds are wonderful and the bar is run well with reasonable costs for drinks. Didn't try the outdoor swimming pool in this cold April!
