Excellent ,great welcome from Sarah and family. High standard in the Chalet. The outside decking was very private and the coloured lighting system could give you various moods . We have known CHURCH STRETTON for many years and the village and the surrounding area have wonderful areas for walking and other pursuits. We would love to return for a break again next year.

“Excellent holiday base in Shropshire”
Reviewed August 12, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The Larches is excellent value for money and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others as a place to stay. Although it is only one room as it is so cleverly designed and well equipped, it feels much bigger. It's in an excellent and peaceful location amongst the trees with views of the hills and the decked balcony outside is an extra bonus which we made use of. I would definitely stay here again if I was visiting Shropshire.

“A touch of Switzerland.....”

We regularly travel through Church Stretton and often comment on what a pretty place it is so this time we decided to stay for a while and we are really glad that we did so.

The Larches is a well equipped, pretty log chalet in the owner's garden but, notwithstanding it has its own privacy. A huge bed (albeit quite firm) and a well equipped kitchen and lounge area are combined with a private balcony with views over the Shropshire hills, what more could you want?

It's a short walk both to the train station and the town itself but the drive up to the house is very steep, something to bear in mind if you are not reasonably fit.

All in all, a great short break.

“Clever accommodation & excellent location”
Reviewed June 30, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

This lodge is cleverly designed; yes, it's close to the house, but it's arranged so that you feel on your own. The outside seating area is surrounded by trees [we saw squirrels in the oak and Goldcrests in the pines], and one of the windows has a view of the hills. The bed is big, the shower facilities very clean and the sofa comfy. Sara is very welcoming and very highly-organised. The location is superb; we didn't need the car except to visit Ludlow and Shrewsbury. [The latter can also be reached easily by rail.]

We did four long hill walks from the Lodge - with a bit of climbing it's easy to get wonderful views. Church Stretton centre is 10 mins walk from the Lodge, and has one of the best delicatessens I've seen outside of London; Van Doesburg Deli, where you can not only get excellent sandwiches, but also enough different high-quality food for evening meals. Housmans Restaurant & Bar is also very good, and we ate there twice - very pleased both times. The Jaipur Indian restaurant also very reliable. The Green Dragon pub in Little Stretton, a mile down the road, also did excellent pub food, and had some local beers.

If you don't know the Shropshire Hills, as we didn't, being southerners, then you'll be very pleasantly surprised by how scenic it is, with some pleasing drives, and also even more pleasing walks. Church Stretton is smack in the middle of the hills. We had a week here at the Lodge, and thought it to be superb value for money.

“Perfect Retreat For A Couple”
Reviewed June 26, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

I’ll split this review into two parts, the good and the bad.

Firstly the good points:

1. Very clean and well maintained open plan accommodation. Perfect for a couple containing everything you need for either a short break or a longer stay.

2. The friendliness of the owners. Very welcoming and helpful but at the same time they know how to let you have your own space and privacy. There was excellent email communication both before and after our visit which was greatly appreciated.

3. The immediate location. About a ten minute walk from the centre of Church Stretton. The last 100m is up a fairly steep bank but this means it benefits from wonderful views across the town and on to the Long Mynd. As others have have mentioned the property appears initially to be quite close to the owners house but this is deceptive as the level of privacy is very high, with the decking area completely shielded and entirely concealed from the main house.

4. The general location. Perfectly situated for the Long Mynd and Cardingmill Valley, some great country pubs in tiny villages like Picklescott and Bridges and slightly larger places such as Clun and Bishop’s Castle. Also an easy short train ride into Shrewsbury in one direction and Ludlow the other. Church Stretton itself is a smashing little town with a couple of nice pubs (both with beer gardens), a wine bar, several restaurants (the Studio was our favourite - not cheap but worth it it) and great independent shops as well as a decent sized Co-op with a very convenient car park next to it.

5. The WiFi. Not important to everyone but it was for us and it was faultless.

6. The price. Very competitively priced - bit of a bargain actually.

Secondly the bad points:

1. There aren’t any.

Conclusion: Book it - you won’t regret it!
