Gairloch Highland Lodge
Ranked #3 of 5 Hotels in Gairloch

I booked because of the sights and the restaurant, but got none of them. The lodge is quite old fashioned and the rooms need some renevwal. It was clean but not any charming at all. Just entering the room I noticed a vibration and noise was coming from the wall which would have made our night, so I had to complain to the staff about it and told me it was the humidifier of the bathrooms and that they couldn't turn it down. After insititing and going out to have dinner in that lovely village, when we returned there was no sound anymore until first hour in the morning.
Wouldn't say it wasn't ok, but can't really recommend it compared to other lodges I've stayed in.

We stayed here for a two night break in July and were really pleased as for the price we paid we hadn't expected very much. On checking in the owner helped us to our room with our luggage and explained everything in the room before leaving us to settle in.
The double room was large and airy with a huge amount of storage. The bathroom was also large although the shower was very cramped with pretty poor water pressure and it did take rather a long time for the water to run hot. As we were only staying for two nights this did not bother us greatly.
We had dinner included on our first night and walked down to the sister hotel 'The Old Inn' which isn't far down the road where dinner is served. The food and service here was excellent, so much so we booked a table for our second night where we received a 10% discount for being residents of the Highland Lodge.
Breakfast at the Highland Lodge was very good with a nice selection of fruit and cereal as well as cooked items. The bread was of the homemade variety as opposed to the standard stuff which was a refreshing change. Special mention must be made to our waitress who served us at dinner and breakfast in both hotels, a girl from capetown, sorry can't remember her name, but will remember her for her excellent service and friendliness.
We made use of the bar in the Old Inn where there was a folk singer one night who was entertaining and funny and provided the place with a super atmosphere and also the lounge and bar in the Highland Lodge which is very comfortable with a good choice of books and games. Here you serve yourself to drinks from a well stocked bar and keep a note on a slip of paper to be charged at the end of your stay.
As we were doing quite a bit of walking and sightseeing during our stay we were able to take advantage of the owners extensive knowledge of the local area for useful hints and tips.
We were extremely sorry when we had to leave and wish we had been able to stay longer. We will definately return to this hotel one day soon.

The hotel was clean and warm with great views over the harbour. However, we were disappointed that one had to walk 200m down the road for dinner at the Old Inn. The hotel's own website suggests that 'real food' and 'real ale' are available - they are not. It seems the two places have the same owners. The decor was very 70's giving the place a slightly depressing and unloved feel.

Stayed here for a couple of nights in late August as part of our West Coast holiday.
The hotel is slightly dated, but this adds to its charm. It has a 70s ambience which was interesting. Gairloch is a truely remote location and we found it wonderfully peaceful. The room was of reasonable standard and the breakfast was excellent for the few guests staying over this period.
We took advantage (not literally) of the 'honesty bar' which was well-stocked and clean. There is a lovely old guest lounge with Sky TV, books, numerous games and if you like chess there are several chess boards set-up and ready to play.
We ate at the nearby 'Old Inn' which provided some excellent pub food - especially the seafood and obviously has a great reputation within the area, judging by the number of diners in this otherwise remote location.
I would recommend this place to anyone, although might not be lively enough for those with families. The Lodge owner was also a very affable guy, who was very helpful.
Any meals/drinks taken at the Old Inn can also be charged to your Lodge bill, but make sure you remind the staff at the Inn about the 10% discount offer which you are given when booking into the Lodge.

Stopped off at the Gairloch Hotel once again while on a bike tour of the West Coast.

Owner give you a really friendly warm welcome. It's a lovely peaceful setting with the Old Inn just a couple of minutes walk to get some seriously tasty dinner.

Met the same group of bikers from England as we saw last year. You always know it's a great place when people go back time and time again.

I booked this hotel because we stayed at the Old Inn last year and it belongs to the same owner. I booked for 18 people and we were treated very well. The food is good and the breakfast is good too. There is even an honesty bar that you can use at night. Well done everyone at Gairloch Highland Lodge and the Old Inn for making us so welcome. We will certainly be returning again next year.

This establishment has recently been taken over by the owners of the Inn down the hill. Very welcoming staff and a quite efficeient breakfast team but the rooms are very outdated in appearance. No doubt this is something the new owners will rectify but it looks like they need to be completely refurbished so may take some time.
