Description: This cafe is recommended by Lonely Planet and could be fantastic. The view is good, The food looked good and some tasted good. I ma prompted ot review becase the service was very bad. The women in charge who I believe is the owner was one fo the grumpier people we met on a 5month tour of Europe. She was loudly critical of and to the young man working there, she was unwelcoming and ignored much of what we said to her. The coffee was ok but made with reluctance and an offhand attitude. We felt as if we were intruding in her space and a real nuisance -- at 11 am !!. We had driven out of the way to get to a place which we felt would be special place for a coffee. It was but in all the wrong ways. We are New Zealanders who do not normally complain but this place was worth complaining about.

“Great coffee and an unexpected find!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2014

We just chanced on this coffee shop as we were desperate for a coffee and loved it. The cakes etc looked wonderful but we didn't try them. The staff were very nice and helpful and it definitely isn't a little quiet and timid coffee shop. The adjoining book shop and card store is absolutely wonderful and we could hardly drag ourselves (and our purchases) away.

“Brilliant and unexpected”

Marvellous coffee, food and staff. Service a bit slow but it doesn't detract from visit and gives you time to browse all the 'stuff' on show.

The best coffee and homemade cakes I have ever eaten and lovely people run it, with a great atmosphere, don't forget the adjoining bookstore.

“Books galore and coffee too”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2014

This place is wonderful and unique. Fresh, homemade cakes, extraordinary coffees, teas and delicious hot chocolate creations. The book store offers every kind of topic imaginable and has a special place for books on the area for those who like trekking, geology or just a bit of local fun.

“Different..!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

I stumbled across this place en route from Durness to Inverness (the long way around). Not expecting to find anywhere open in the late afternoon, it was a welcome coffee break.

Whilst the espresso machine wasn't working on my visit, I opted for filter coffee which was rather good & reasonably priced. Some of the cakes are large enough to share so me & my dad opted to do this & this was no trouble for the staff.

Yes, it's quirky, but it's got bags of character & worth the visit if you happen to be out that way. It's no Costa or Starbucks and for me, that's a good thing!
