“Cosy with good food and friendly staff”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Came here in a group of six adults with some kids. Really liked the open fire and the cheery welcome.

As half of our group were vegetarians, we were pleased to see 2 or 3 choices on the menu. Food was reasonably priced and well cooked. The sea-food eaters in our group were very pleased indeed.

If we had come earlier in the day we would have loved to have taken advantage of the cosy looking bar.

“Great busy place”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

The place is popular and was full of tourists and locals when we dined. The food is very good although there is a slight over emphasis of fried food on the menu - it was all tasty. The night we went there was entertainment on which was good, foot stomping and very popular even the staff all joined in singing at the end. We squeezed in and managed to get a table to dine with the doggie under the table but because it was busy she did get trodden on a few times. A cracking pub / hotel the sort you need on a holiday.

“Quick Lunch out”
Reviewed October 30, 2012

When we approached this pub/restaurant it was not clear what door to use. The one to the restaurant was closed - even though it was 12 midday - so we went into the bar. We ordered drinks and were told that their local home brew was not on. My OH had the venison game stew which was nice, very meaty, but mainly venison, served with chips (wonderful) and peas. I had the fish pie, which was tasty and had good chunks of fish in, although the sauce was a little thin for my liking and there was no potato topping (also personal preference). For dessert, I had a wonderful home-made banoffee pie, and my OH had a clootie dumpling with custard. He was disappointed that it was cut from a large one and not individually wrapped, so the skin was only on one part of it. Service was average. We left feeling that it should have been a good experience as the food was tasty and the service was adequate, but both actually came away a little deflated. We feel it is resting on its laurels from previous awards.

“Improvement since our last visit”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Last time we visited we found the bar food to be small in portion and large in price. However, this time the food was much better and the portion sizes had improved. We will return and hope the standards now achieved will be maintained

“Staff and soup”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Cullen skink to die for.
Drink too much in the bar the staff are a hoot.
Beautiful location, stand on the bridge and wonder how you're going to be able to afford to buy the place.
