We had a fabulous visit with Dorothy and her family. We stayed in Brian’s Cottage and were made to feel so welcome.

Two great walks were from the cottage to Warkworth and back along the coast and heading in the other direction to Lesbury with a detour to the stepping stones and round to Alnmouth.

On this occasion we were with friends but definitely plan to go back with family when we can.

If you want to eat out in Alnmouth, book early! We found it hard to get in but eventually found somewhere that could take us.

The farm was well situated down the farm track a short drive from Alnmouth. Dorothy and her family gave a wonderful welcome, offering help with bags and taking us straight to the room. We were given very good tea and cake and had a relaxing swing in the outdoor chair while Dorothy went out of her way to find and arrange a good restaurant.

The communal breakfast was tasty with welcome fruit and good quality full English. The four poster bed was very comfortable and the room spacious with its own sofa and large television. The shower was very efficient.

Dorothy’s daughter, daughter in law and grandson were hugely friendly and interested and gave a wonderful sense of family. All the others in the drmarkbed and breakfast were multiple repeat visitors which came as no surprise.

After a very long journey we received a warm welcome and we felt just like old friends, immediately comfortable, cosseted, cared for. Everything catered or, nothing to worry about, just relax and enjoy. Helpful, brilliant recommendation of dinner at The Old Boat House, Amble - quirky, fabulous fish dishes. Wonderful nights sleep, really enjoyable breakfasts around a large table with likeminded people that we could chat with. Dorothy has the balance just right of being there when you need anything, but quietly in the background when you are eating and Brian cooks the most delicious breakfasts. This is an experienced couple who know just what a weary couple of travellers need. We left rested and recuperated and loved!

Room Tip: We had a large bedroom with comfy bed and large bathroom with standalone bath

Myself, husband and 2 children have just completed a 3 night stay in Catherine cottage, my sister and her family in Emma’s cottage and our mum stayed in the farmhouse B & B and we all agree it was wonderful. The barn conversion cottages are exceptionally tidy and well equipped. The beds comfortable and everything clean. The location for Alnwick and Alnmouth is excellent. We also ventured up to Seahouses for a Farne island trip. Dorthey and Brian are excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble and the farm trip was really enjoyed by fellow farmers!!
We would definitely recommend these barns for a family stay looking for tidy cottages, great hosts, beautiful peaceful setting and stress free holiday.
We will be back.
