“Disappointed and dissatisfied poor value poor service.”
Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

We were so disappointed with this visit: the restaurant and staff service did not live up to experience expectations to reviews!!!
Positive: Amy (waiting staff). Ian (chef) anti pasti starter. Chicken main course. All of the foregoing are of high quality and couldn't be faulted. I have been to the restaurant several times before and it had been brilliant - this us why I feel the need to complain this time.
Negative: the rest of the staff. A waitress told us they do not serve child portions at all: her colleague told the table next to us (after we had ordered) that they do half portions of everything on the menu. The very young manager sat socialising on another table despite being told customers (us) were complaining. We waited a very long time for all courses to be cleared.
The carbonara - the portion was so small we had to double check they hadn't accidentally given us a half portion.
The lasagne - pub equivalent of 1975 / much processed food involved. Slimy and nasty.
Service - slow and unresponsive
Toilets - mouldy
Bill - at more than £60 for 3 including 1 child and a drink this was very expensive - especially in comparison to other local places.
We retired to the red lion for desserts and coffee and weren't disappointed.
We won't be returning to this restaurant.

Heard different reviews so we decieded to try for ourselves ,not disappointed at all pleased we booked, food was lovely, had king prawn starter then crab pancakes, him in doors had rissortto then steak , all done to perfection, cider very expensive £4.00 a pint and not a good brand either !!!!!! anyway we would go back but have a bottle of wine cheaper than a couple of pints. Not sure if we would visit if happy hour not available, staff good tell the lad he should smile more.

Went along for the half price happy hour, lovely meal bit cold in the restaurant but it was during this years crazy March weather! The Chef was genuinely interested in our opinion. Would definitely visit again.

“Could improve....”
Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

We went there on the recommendation of a friend, and we were expecting more than we got. That said, the atmosphere is very nice, staff is reasonably attentive. We shared a starter of mixed olives, and they came straight from a jar, no effort to enhance them with a bit of oil and herbs, this is a missed opportunity. The pizza my partner had was OK-ish, my lasagne was possibly from a frozen pack courtesy of Iceland, I certainly did not feel it was home-made. The wine was reasonably priced, and service itself was quick. There are more restaurants in Alnmouth, so we'll try the next one when we are in Alnmouth again

“Great night”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

We found the staff extremely pleasant in a good atmosphere, We ate in the bar as dogs were allowed in here even with the Italian menu. For starters we had king prawns in garlic which were ok and pear and cheese salad which again was ok. Main course was a calazone pizza and wild mushroom pasta. The Pizza was lacking in filling and flat with a tasty tomato sauce, pasta was a large portion with a nice sauce but the mushrooms hadn't been soaked enough and were a bit dry. Shame because this the pasta and sauce were excellent. We will eat here again as the food was ok and the pub made up for the average food. The Savignon
