“Hope and Anchor”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hope and Anchor, a nice friendly atmosphere where you can sit and have a nice relaxing drink or bar meal. There's also an excellent Italian restaurant adjoining the premises with excellent food. Well worth a visit.

We went on a coupon deal in May 2013 and were put in the "Lapwing" en-suite room, with a double and 2 twin beds so ideal for a family.

This is in an ideal location for touring Northumberland, with the likes of Warkworth, Alnwick and Bamburgh castles close by.

I believe the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment shortly so phone to check if its open if just visiting to drink or eat.

All the rooms are named after birds instead of being numbered, we had Seagull. Room was nice and a good size with a large en-suite, makes a change having a bath (the shower was in the bath), great to have a choice. Only let down was the lack of toiletries, only one tiny bar of soap not much bigger than a 50pence piece. Shower gell and shampoo are not expensive and you expect to find them in B&B's these days. The bed was very comfortable and their wasa hospitality tray with tea, coffe and hot chocolate but only one individual packet of biscuits.

The bar area reminded us more of a cafe than a bar so we chose not eat there, the ambiance in other pubs in Alnmouth was more comfortablle.

The breakfast was served in the room next to the bar which doubles as an Italian restaurant during the evening. Decor, which looks like it has been recently done, was very nice and makes the bar area look really shabby. Plenty to eat for breakfast, although service very slow and no one was asked if they wanted more tea/coffee or toast, even if you do not want more it is nice to be asked and the veggie sausage definatley better than the meat version (which was rock hard).

Despite some of my comments being slighty negative, we would reurn for another overnight visit and possibly try the Italian restaurant

This is one of several old inns set on Northumberland Avenue, the main street in Alnmouth. It is a friendly welcoming but unpretentious establishment. Our en-suite room was surprisingly large with a double and single bed. There was also folding bed and a cot available so the room could have accommodated a couple with two kids and a baby. The room was comfortable with a sofa and wide screen TV.There were a couple of minor maintenance jobs outstanding being the bathroom door which needed rehanging and a cracked window pane. There were three real ales available in the bar which were well kept.Next to the bar in the same building is an Italian restaurant with an average priced menu. However between 1600 and 1730 hours as all food is half price we took advantage of this. The food was great,I had a fish stew with an unpronounceable name and my wife had a steak and onion pizza,we both finished with a panacotta. We were on a KGB deal which was excellent value and which we highly recommend.

We saw this offer on KGB and gave it a go. We were very pleasantly surprised. The pub is a little tired but when shown to our room we were really pleased . It was spotless with pleasant decor. The breakfast was adequate. The pub has an Italian restaurant next door and the menu is the same in the pub. The restaurant has a lovely ambience a little lacking in the pub. Our room at the top of the stairs was a little noisy when thoughtless guests came late to their room but not the pub's fault. The pub is on the main road through the village and parking is at a premium (all on the road) Get there early for a spot close by. If a had to be picky there is no flat surface in them bathroom to put your things down on. Had to use the floor. All in all a pleasant two nights in a lovely unspoilt village on the coast.

Have recently stayed on a 2 night Living Social voucher offer.Received a very warm and genuine welcome from Adam, the manager.Room - Seagull-was clean, cosy and very comfortable.Evening meal(part of offer on first evening) was excellent-all food locally sourced and cooked to order-good quality and generous portion sizes, and piping hot.Staff were friendly and service was excellent.Breakfasts each morning were equally good.Second evening meal in the hotel's Italian restaurant-our table looked into kitchen-all meals cooked from fresh, chefs worked extremely well. Our food was piping hot, delicious and service was excellent-a cut above.
On the whole our whole experience at the Hope and Anchor was most enjoyable.Only negative would be parking, which unfortunately management can do little about.Adam is a very personable young man and he has a friendly, hard working staff .Thankyou to all.

stayed one night at the rooms in this pub. The room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of tea and coffee provided. The ensuite was a good size, clean and warm, but looking a bit tired in places. The pub has an Italian restuaurant attached, where we ate. The food was average and overpriced. Service was casual. Parking was no problem. The pub was cosy and charming. Overall I would not go back to stay at this property as at £90.00 for a double room B&B, is overpriced for what you get.

We paid GBP120.00 for one night in a family room (very small double and 2 single beds) which is definitely too much. Pub food was good and breakfast OK. Parking an issue - pot luck with finding a space on the road! Would not go back to this hotel (PUB) again as accommodation way over-priced.
