I am responding to your review of Bistro 23 after your visit in January . I am certain that you have visited during the day, when we trade as The Tea Cosy Tea room, not Bistro 23.During the day we sell snacks and light lunches at competitive prices. In the bistro the meals are much more substantial and I would hope that you come and try it out should you ever be back in Alnmouth.

“Courtesy, excellent food & service”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Having seen this restaurant praised on Tripadvisor we decided to try it out. Rang to see if I could make a booking and Alistair said that at that moment they were not sure if they would be open that evening or not as we were the first enquiry. Said he would ring back early in the week we were going to let us know the situation and would recommend an alternative restaurant if necessary. As it was I received a call the week before to say that they would be open. Did not need a taxi as only 28 paces from where we were staying and on a very cold evening went in to an immediate warm welcome. The food was excellent throughout-good choice of starters and main courses (we did not get round to desserts as no room!). Very friendly and professional service from start to finish plus some interesting tales/facts about Alnmouth and the area. When we visit Alnmouth again then this will be a first port of call.

“Friendly Staff and nice atmosphere”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Only stopped for a tea and cake after a cold walk on the beach, but were warmly welcomed and well attended to in a pleasant atmosphere. Nice touch is the tourist information available... not just the advertising leaflets, but books of walks in the area too.

“Delightful & Delicious!”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

After a cold walk on the beach for an hour, we were surprised to find a most cosy, friendly place for lunch in the main street in Alnmouth. Unfaultable in every way - clean, warm, welcoming, with a marvellous quick, unhurried waitress alert to every need, going the extra mile to see we enjoyed our visit, and beautifully presented food, unusually excellent! We were so content and warm, we lost track of time and had to ask to pay, suddenly, in order to catch a train: it was amazing how easily and speedily this was handled. Also, the furniture and paintings of local scenes on the walls and other furnishings all add up to a very pleasant ambience. Planning to revisit Alnmouth just to have a second visit there!

“Wow! - beautiful meal and fantastic service”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

Phoned up a couple of weeks in advance to book a table here whilst we were staying in Alnmouth for the weekend and ended up enjoying possibly the best meal of our holiday!

On arrival we were greeted warmly, and offered fresh "stottie cake" - a delicious wholemeal bread local to the north east. Despite having two large parties of 11 and 18 in, service was quick, efficient and very friendly with our waitress able to take a few moments to chat to us and make us feel very welcome.

As others have commented, the restaurant is only open on Wednesday and Saturday evenings and the menu is limited to five starters, five mains and five desserts but still with veggie and fish options for those who dont eat meat. The wine choice is similarly limited but like the food very reasonable for what you get.

Even so, we found plenty to choose from and the quality and taste was fantastic with all three courses going back with spotless plates!

We particularly enjoyed the cheese, which like everything else is locally sourced, and our waitress even took the trouble to get us the details of the producer and advised where we could buy it locally.

if you are lucky enough to be in the area when this wonderful little place is open I would completely recommend a visit - but remember to phone and book! Thank you for a lovely evening.
