“Quality of food”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

The food quality, service and friendliness of the staff are all excellent. Eating either in the bar or the beautiful refurbished restaurant allows you to eat from the same menu, all of which dishes we've tried(we've eaten there many times now--we just keep going back, it's so nice) have been delicious. Thoroughly recommend this as a great place to eat.
Though we haven't stayed there, friends and family have, and all say the rooms and service are excellent.

“Let down by one staff member”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

We visited over this pub on Wednesday and were pleased to see that they were serving all day. It was about 3:30 p.m. so decided to have a sandwich before heading home. It was nice and busy and the fire was roaring. The young guy that first served us was very pleasant but it rapidly went down hill when there was a change over of staff at 4 p.m. We were served our sandwiches by a girl who looked more than displeased to be there. She plonked the sandwiches on the table and walked away with no more than a glance at whether we like anything else etc.... She retreated behind the bar while we were still waiting for the chips we had ordered. Meanwhile my partner had looked at his sandwich which was described as a 'melt' on the menu, and wasn't even warm! He tried to get the girls attention but she had little intention of coming from behind the bar - eventually she begrudgingly came over (with a look that could kill) to warm the sandwich and get our chips. As she took the sandwich away she muttered something under her breath to another member of staff about the complaint we had made. Being in the hospitality industry myself I would never employ someone who was so inhospitable and does damage to your business. I know we all need all the custom we can these days and experiences like this is enough to drive customers away. It definitely has for us.

“Consistently high standards”
Reviewed April 3, 2013 via mobile

We love the red lion! As dog walking parents with a child we enjoy the beer garden whenever the sun shines. More recently after a very disappointingly poor meal and service elsewhere in alnmouth we called in for a drink and dessert. Service great. Staff lovely. Wine choices good. Chocolate brownie - amazing!!!

“A cut above”
Reviewed April 2, 2013 via mobile

Dropped in while staying in Alnmouth. Nice food a cut above the normal in a cosy bar with a real fire and real ale. What more can you ask for?!
