“Couldn't fault it.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

We called in with friends who were visiting the area. Even though it was late for lunch- 2:30pm, there were still plenty of people dining. The bar area being full we had our sandwiches in the dining room. On the recommendation of the landlord I tried a pint of Tempest, a traditional hoppy bitter and very much to my taste. The crab sandwiches were a nice blend of white and brown crab meat on fresh bread, though I would have preferred them not to have contained salad- the accompanying salad and coleslaw on the plate would have been sufficient.
The service was very good- friendly staff who were obviously keen to please.

“Brilliant atmosphere and lovely food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Get there early for a table! The service was a bit slow but the food was well worth waiting for. Good choice of starters, mains and puddings with daily specials shown on a board. All the food that our party had over two nights was excellent - try the 3 chocolate puddings for desert, a treat for chocolate lovers. As it was autumn when we visited the fire was lit, making the place warm but not overheated. Dogs are welcomed here, the staff are friendly and give just the right amount of attention without the inevitable "enjoy" that most servers say further south!

“Good Local pub and excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

A great place to warm up in after a winters walk on Alnmouth beach. Served a great pint of Guinness and offered a good range of beers. The food served was of a very good standard, the Slow cook mutton was excellent. There was a quiz on a tuesday night which was fun and added to the excellent atmosphere

Popped in for a pot of tea and a bowl of soup, both were excellent, served in the cosy bar. If your in Almouth do not miss this one!!!

“A Great find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

Was looking for somewhere to eat near the a1 and saw the reviews and made the short detour. It seemed so welcoming that we decided to ask if they had a room and made a night of it. Very happy with the food (Steak and Ale pie and I had a larger portion of the Salmon linguine, and a wickedly good brownie) Breakfast was great, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad, good coffee. The staff were so friendly and helpful , even warning us to check for flooding before we set off in the morning.
The rooms are very nicely furnished , lovely style but with some character -but can the tray table have padded edges, I have a huge bruise from unsuccessfully squeezing past it ;) Bedding, towels all seem very nice quality, much better than average B and B.
I would thoroughly recommend this establishment for dinner, a cosy drink , or a very good B and B.
