We got engaged here many years ago, so thought it would be good to spend a couple of nights while in the area. Naturally, it has changed considerably over nearly 40 years - but not unrecognisably so, as there is a limit to how much a 17th century inn can change.

In many ways, it was for the better. Our room was a superior one, with four-poster bed, and of course en suite - very different to 40 years ago! The restaurant hasn't changed much, except that the food seemed even better than before.

Simon & Helen (and family!) were extremely friendly and welcoming (both to us and our dog), and Simon produced some splendid meals.

It is particularly good value during the week, at £110 for a superior room and dinner (plus an excellent breakfast).

A lovely place to stay, in what must be one of the prettiest villages in the area. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Probably worth spending an extra £20 for a superior room

This was our second visit to what feels like our "second home", the family, Helen, Simon, Chad and co (not forgetting Alex) make you feel so welcome and part of their family, the rooms are excellent, the food superb and the company make it a real treat to stay there. We love it so much we are planning a return visit early next year and taking some of our family members with us. I am sure they will enjoy the relaxing stay as much as we do.

Room Tip: We stayed both times in "Pinkerspond" a lovely bright airy welcoming room.

We have just returned after a 2 night stay at the Fauconberg, with 4 friends. We had gone to Yorkshire for a trip to Thirsk races & after trawling the internet for accomodation in Thirsk, we had to look further afield, as close hotels to the course were fully booked up.What a good move --we had a woderful time at this really lovely country pub. The location is in a lovely peaceful village & the pub itself is warm & homely, with lovely friendly staff-nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were very comfortable & clean. We ate in the restaurant & bar on both nights. The food was really excellent & the breakfast hearty. We will definitely return for another long weekend soon. Thank you for making us all so welcome & "at home"

We were bough a groupon voucher for Christmas to stay here and it was excellent! Our room was beautifully furnished and the bathroom with freestanding roll top bath is a real feature! The rooms are provided with great little touches like Yorkshire tea and a teapot which is unusual for a pub with rooms! The food in the evening was faultless, an excellent meal and lovely wine. The staff are great - very friendly and good characters! After a great nights sleep the breakfast is superb to get you off to a great day in Harrogate! Thank you Fauconberg - we will return!!
