“A Great Stay Thanks !!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2012

First time stayers. We loved being treated more like friends than paying guests. The food and accommodation was great. It really is a proper pub serving good food and ales. Please keep it that way as there are too many of these "gastro pubs" springing up that have lost all their atmosphere.Even our Scottie was treated great !
we will return.

Room Tip: The stairs are a bit daunting for someone with limited mobility. If only they had a ground room it wo...

From the moment we arrived we knew we had found a very special place. We felt very welcome, instantly relaxed and extremely comfortable. On Saturday we relaxed outside watching the little village of Coxwold go by, followed by a fantastic meal in the restuarant on Saturday evening. This can only be described as fine dining come home! We can highly recommend the black pudding starter - but be warned.....you won't need a main course!

The hosts were superb, friendly and in a very subtle way, couldn't do enough for you. The room we stayed in despite overlooking the car park, was beautiful, fairly large, extremely clean and well equipt. Just beyond the car park however, you have views of rolling green for miles, and from wherever you are the views are stunning. The freshly decorated bathroom had a large contemporary roll top bath and endless hot water..........

,,,,,,,,which brings us to breakfast! Despite being tempted by kippers by our hosts the night before, we opted for the Full Yorkshire Breakfast - and greatly disturbed "Chef" by asking for our eggs to be poached (only because he told us the night before he hated doing poached eggs!) They were great, and we loved it so much, we are going back next weekend for my birthday! See you again soon.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front of the hotel may be a little quieter in the morning.

Lovely place for a pub snack. Visited here on a lunch time and staff were very friendly and welcoming. They have a cat, which didn't bother me and she is just part of the pub spirit. The lunch was brilliant, the ham sandwich was lovely and the chips were very good too.
This is a hidden gem.

Worth a visit !!!!

The Fauconberg is a very special place. We stayed recently for dinner bed and breakfast in the four poster room, which was a real treat. The food was awesome - Simon's scallops on samphire were an unusually and very pleasing combination. The steak was perfect, and we didn't have room for pudding! The service was also excellent, a young waiter who came out just when you needed him and was really polite and helpful without hassling you at all, it was top notch. The wine was excellent (puglia). Breakfast couldn't be faulted.

The room was charming - approached through a quirky little doorway and tastefully decorated with beautiful curtains and drapes, and lovely wood panelling. We would have liked to have spent longer just to enjoy how pretty it was. The village is picturesque and quiet so it really felt like a get-away-from-it-all.

We have been before to eat, and we know sometimes it can take a while to get served. Having had delicious food there time and again, and knowing it is genuinely home cooked, and the thought and care that goes into the menu, we think its well worth a wait now and then. While we were there they were busy with a large party and another couple had to wait a little longer than they expected to be served at the bar and to be seated. I can only imagine they didn't have our faith, as they seemed a little stressed and twitchy. The Fauconberg is best approached as a place where you can let time go more slowly, while more care is taken and you should be confident that your food and service will be worth a wait. Simon and Helen do an excellent job - their pride and care is evident.

We love the way the whole family is involved at the Fauconberg - Simon and Helen are a class act but Charlie and Chad are a real treat as well. Totally professional yet interesting fun and totally committed. We absolutely love it and just wish we had more time and money to go more often.

DEFINITELY A GREAT PLACE TO GO - RELAX A BIT AND ENJOY!

Room Tip: The fourposter was beautifully and tastefully furnished, the sloping floor was characterful and quir...

We booked to stay in a superior room for a single night at the Fauconberg in February. When we arrived at the inn we were told that there was no record of our booking. Initially we were concerned that we’d have nowhere to stay but fortunately a small room was available. Simon apologised for the mix up and said he’d get to the bottom of the issue and keep us informed. That was the last we heard of it.

We would have had no complaints regarding the room had we booked it as it was clean and well furnished, but there was no bath as there would have been with the superior which was a disappointment. With its low ceilings, dark wood beams and open fires, the inn is a wonderful place to spend a cold winter’s evening, and it’s sited in a beautiful area. Our evening meal was simple but honest and cooked well, and the pudding was excellent. There was a shooting party at the inn that night as well as some kind of event in the dining room, but by about 11:30pm both parties had either left or quietened down so we slept well. The following morning we enjoyed a full English breakfast that was cooked perfectly and there were plenty of other breakfast options available.

When it came to settle with the lady at the bar the following morning it seemed that we wouldn’t be getting a refund for the downgrade from superior to a standard room, so we prompted her to resolve this. We could overhear her debating this with Simon in the back room. I’m not sure why there was any debate to be had but the difference was finally removed from our bill. As we were drinking coffee before settling we both clearly heard Simon say "I knew it was another one of those b****y Groupons" having just taken a booking on the telephone. If the additional business provided by those using vouchers is unwelcome then I’d suggest that the Fauconberg stops participating in voucher schemes. As we’d booked with a Living & Social voucher it did make us consider whether our bumping from superior to standard could be explained by Simon’s attitude to those using vouchers, but I’d like to think that there’s no connection.

This experience motivated me to write my first TripAdvisor review, albeit several months after the event so that I could be sure I was considered in my comments. It’s not the worst experience I’ve had by any means but it did leave a sour taste. I wouldn’t stay at the Fauconberg again nor recommend it as Simon seemed to have no interest in encouraging us to return in the future - had he been then you’d imagine that he might have made the effort to come talk to us himself as we left rather than stay in the back room, made sure we didn’t have to prompt somebody to reduce the bill and perhaps done a little something with the food/drinks bill to compensate for the disappointment of being downgraded.

Cool reception upon arrival. Waited in Bar area for menu when order completed with waiter told we had to order wine at the bar. Stood at bar for several minutes without any attention given, went away and then on second attempt by another member of group received attention. Starters extremely expensive, Lamb was very under cooked (worst I have ever experienced), wine and drinking glasses not very clean or shiney, crumble was very lumpy and hard.
