“Great Pub”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

After 1 and a half years coming to staithes, me and my boyfriend (19) have come in this pub a few times. As the cottage we stay in, with his grandparents, is literally a 10 second walk to the pub we find we go to this one most. The chips there are really nice :) like proper chips ! And the meals are great. We have especially grown fond of the scampi and go for a meal there regularly as the prices are reasonable. The drink is average price (Not as cheap as the fox and hounds) but we still drink there. Its a very homely pun, and sat right next to the sea its in a beautiful location.

“Nice pub shame about some people.”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

We were staying in Whitby with friends for New Year and decided to see what Staithes was like. We ended up in the Cod and Lobster on New Years day and had a couple of welcoming beers in the afternoon, just to blow off a few cob webs. It's quite a nice place, a bit rough round the edges, but it's got a warm welcoming fire. It was quite busy with families and couples, We checked out the food and even though we didn't have any the menu did look quite nice, though a bit pricey. We wandered from outside to back in the pub, lovely views. Staff were pleasant. Unfortunately there was a boorish local chap stood at the bar who had drunk a little too much and raised his voice over everybody elses with the addition of colourful language, shaming himself and the group he was with. I do wish landlords would have a word sometimes. Still a nice place. I gather there no letting rooms here which would be a big bonus.

“Miserable staff”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Went to pub for lunch, food was okay, nothing brilliant but edible. We found the bar staff unfriendly and we waited ages to be served. I was quite disappointed in this pub, it is in a prime location but the staff made us feel unwelcome and We won't be visiting again.

“so disapointing”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

This is located in the picturesque village of Staithes, overlooking the harbour. The pub itself had a nice, quaint interior so we ordered Fish & chips. Disapointingly one of the fish was off, its smelt off and tasted it, yet when I asked the "chef" to try, was told it was fine! As a trained fishmonger in a previous career, I can assure him it was off! Now Im sure we can all accept these things happen, but to compound the issue by lying about the obvious is poor. Beer was poor too.
Very disapointing, and would not revisit or recommend.

“Lovely food”
Reviewed December 10, 2012 via mobile

We were here in a very cold December week, the pub was really quiet but the food was superb. Garlic mushrooms were beautiful as were the mussels. Their marine pie was gorgeous.
