“A fantastic letting-company with a personal approach”
Reviewed October 25, 2011

We stumbled across this website around 3 years ago and have used it many times since! Staithes is a tiny, picturesque village with really, just one street with lots of little twisty alleys off it. There's one way in to the village, and you have to turn around to get back out again! It's nigh-on impossible to get any 'phone signal so it is THE IDEAL GET-AWAY.
The letting company is fronted by a lovely couple: Maureen and Maurice Selby who live in the village and own The Kessen Bowl Gift Shop and the flat above. They manage the other properties on their books, several of which are renovated and owned by 2 brothers who have also fallen in love with this coastal idyll. Because they live in the village and love it and are always close at hand, Maureen and Maurice are the ideal managers.
The properties on the books do change occasionally but are always of a high standard. They are always freshly decorated, nicely appointed and make the most of the often quirky and difficult nature of old seaside cottages. They range vastly in size but are generally available to parties smaller than capacity (there are just 2 of us but we've stayed in some of the much bigger properties). Most of the properties are dog-friendly too, providing you pay a small fee for the deeper cleaning required on your departure.
We reckon we've now stayed in 7 of Staithescottages' properties at least once and have yet to be disappointed. Some have more room outside, or a bigger kitchen or are cosier in bad weather or have better bathrooms: it depends on your preferences, but we will recommend this company and their properties to anyone. Maureen is friendly, concerned and efficient, Maurice is a character and a mine of local information and always has a smile and a laugh for everyone.
Cannot recommend these guys enough. And our little dog, Weasel, thinks of Staithes as his spiritual home! Visit, take your bucket and spade, some nice grub, a few books, have a pint with Fiona and Peter at the Cod and Lobster and relax like you haven't in ages, certain of the fact that the sea view you can't stop staring at will soothe your soul.

Room Tip: work out your priorities: more space/character/better bathroom/outdoor area/better accessibility

We were browsing the web for a quick weekend get away in North Yorkshire when we came across www.staithescottages.com.
After looking at the various choices, they sleep from 10 - 2, we booked a cottage hoping for the best.
We need not have worried the cottage we booked was superb through out and our initial greeting from Maureen was excellent.
We were shown to our cottage where complimentary drinks and food had been placed and everything about the cottage was explained to us, including the history of the cottage and the village.
Staithes is a beautiful old fishing village nestling under the cliffs of The North Yorks Moors National Parks although the acess to the village is a little hilly the village is an ideal location for walking on the Cleveland Way and for exploring the surrounding area including Whitby.
We will definatley be returning to Staithes and we know we will receive another excellent reception upon our arrival.
Highly recommended.
