Not much to shout about on the decor, and we didn't try the food, but the real ale was top notch. On our second visit they had a beer festival and every beer we tasted was spot on. Very friendly service also. I think that the present owners haven't had the place long and some renovation work was in progress.

If your visiting staithes, this is a great pub, With good food and real beer, The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. There was a beer festival on when we visited with 40 different beers on offer which was a bonus. There's a family room (with table footy) where children are most welcome. We visited the "cook" several times during our stay and cannot find a fault with it at all, There are good menus for both adults and children and they're very reasonably priced. Card payment facilities are available too! Thanks to everyone at the "cook" (staff and locals alike) for helping to make our stay in staithes really special.

Called in here for a drink and a bite (but never stayed here). The pub is absolutely 'basic', real old fashioned (what used to be a 'man's' pub). However, the staff and customers are really friendly and helpful and the food is great, good variety and good value for money. Don't be put off by the 'wrapping'.

While we've never stayed here, we visit the pub each year without fail. At the top of the hill leading down into Staithes, by the car parks, the Captain Cook isn't a fancy, tidied-up chain pub, but it's the real thing. Civilized and relaxed, with no television to be seen. Comfortable seats, benches and tables, lots of room to spread out the papers and sit awhile over your pint. The real ales are uniformly splendid -- tasty and well-kept. The frequent guest beers are even better than splendid. Haven't tried the food, we've been too busy drinking.

Our first visit to the Captain Cook in Staithes. The bar staff are friendly, the chips are homemade, and the atmosphere is as a pub should be with wooden floors and roaring fire ! A great place to sit on a Saturday afternoon reading the papers.
