“Lovely surroundings and food for a winter evening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2014

Sat on a settle by the fire enjoying good company and excellent food.
Several had the steak and kidney suet pudding ... Beware it is basin sized!
Starter of crab ravioli was excellent in a seafood bisque. The smoked haddock main also good. Thoroughly enjoyed the liquorice ice cream.
Make sure you have a reservation.

“Lovely atmosphere and great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2014

We really enjoyed our meal on Saturday night. We were sat in the bar next to the fire, the setting was lovely and the service was really good. The haddock was superb, and we both enjoyed amazing starters.

“Very pleasant discovery.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

Our sat nav led us to the pretty village of East Witton for some reason, although it was meant to direct us to nearby Leyburn, however this proved beneficial to us as we have now discovered this lovely, quaint pub/restaurant. Stone floors, and grand welcoming fire, along with the very tasteful décor, make the place an instant hit. The staff are pleasant, efficient, and smartly presented, and were able to help with any advice we needed about the menu or the local area. We opted for the lunch menu, which at £15.50 for two courses proved great value, and my "moules frites",and my wifes pheasant with gnocchi, were both well cooked and greatly appreciated. By and large this establishment would warrant 5 stars, but I'm afraid I have one gripe, which some people may find petty, but others would have major issue with, and it's the amount of dogs in the pub,and more importantly the interaction between some of the staff and the animals. We observed on several occaisions during our meal some of the staff stroking, and allowing their hands to be licked by the dogs, and then proceeding to serve food and drinks, and I'm pretty sure this would not lend itself to a high standard of hygiene. Luckily the waitress who served us didn't seem to indulge in this practice so we didn't need to bring it to her attention, but I'm sure the owners would not wish to this to become a problem,so I personally think it needs to be addressed. Otherwise this is a lovely place and deserves a return visit by us next time we're in the area, and hopefully we can award 5stars.
