Booked for one night, small double room . The room was small, barely enough room to move and felt claustrophobic and very warm. Bathroom needed attention to decor, lots of cracks. It looked like the room and the bathroom had been quickly given the once over, whilst attention has been given to the new wing. Dont be fooled by the website. We had dinner in the restaurant and thought it was over priced - caesar salad with fresh anchovies - had only 2 anchovies placed on top. The side salad was small and again very overpriced - the biggest mark up was the wine - nothing less than 15.50 per bottle of wine - and it wasnt anything special. Whilst we dined in the restaurant the waitresses were dragging tables across the room getting ready for breakfast and discussing how many were going to be down for breakfast the next morning. So we felt that we should get a move on and finish our meal. Didnt sleep particually well as the room was far too warm and there wasnt enough room for air to circulate. Breakfast was fine with a good choice.

We stayed here a few years ago, prior to the extension and can honestly say this stay was much more enjoyable than this one. Wont dismiss it entirely, however, there are lots of other places nearby that we would choose first.

I organised a lunch for 7 at the restaurant in the White Swan.
There was enough food choice for our group's diverse requirements. There was no children's menu.
Service was slow and inattentive. The place appeared to be understaffed and one waitress seemed to be unable to understand any of our requests; even simple drinks orders.
Food was edible but unexceptional. I think it was overpriced for what we received.
I wouldn't go there again and I wouldn't recommend it.

Whilst Middleham is a beautiful little spot, this hotel was a big disappointment. When we entered the room, we were hit by the strong smell of bleach so had to air the place before we even were able to relax in the room. The bathroom was absolutely tiny, with a small shower cubicle (no bath), toilet and sink. Our windows looked onto a wall or a small courtyard so there was no obvious reminder that we were actually in the beautiful british countryside. The absolute worst problem we had was with the mattress- I could not believe that they would actually expect someone to sleep on this, let alone pay to sleep on it. It was like sleeping on a wooden board in parts and raw springs in other areas of the mattress. We had an terrible nights sleep due to the noise from all around. We heard every movement from the room above, water rushing through the pipes from other rooms and as our room was close to the stairs, we heard people late at night and early in the morning. If I wasn't at the hotel for a friend's special occasion, I would of refused to pay for an absolutely terrible room in a hopeless hotel which didn't even have good customer service to make up for the problems with the room. Avoid at all costs. There are such nicer places around in Middleham.

Whoever owns this hotel would do well to invest in setting on some decent staff and some training in customer care.

What a set of rude, uninterested individuals. This team are merely going through the motions, i genuinely feel that they dislike their customers and see them as some sort of intrusion upon their day.

The hotel is in a great position in a great Yorkshire location but the management here are taking things for granted and shouldn't rely on repeat bookings. We certainly won't be coming back, the room was cold with radiator not working in the bathroom, on a cold winters day you need the bathroom to be warm. The fire door opposite our room had been left open and there was a general feeling of coldness about the place.

When I went to enquire about a radiator key to bleed the radiator I was informed ther maintenance man didn't work weekends, wow what goods that then.

No information re breakfast times and just a general unfriendly atmosphere, hanging around to check in/out with unhelpful staff in abundance.

Overpriced and unpleasant

Quite nice actually and a pleasant change from the rest of the area. It seemed to be staffed by non locals which was a big bonus. Great eating area and lovely food. It is Middleham and leyburn itself which lets you down. With unfriendly people and rude terrible service. We changed to this hotel from the golden lion in leyburn because it was the worst experience of my life.

Hotel was clean. Lounge area not big enough. Breakfasts very good. Evening menu very limited but special board was good; only problem with that was that most of the dishes were not available - the trade was busy during the day, and they had run out of most of the speicals! Not good enough really. If we'd have know this, we would have eaten elsewhere. The wine was overpriced as well. The staff made up for this as they were excellent. Service very good and with a smile. Don't think I would stay there again though - have been to better for the same cost.
