“Bloody Brilliant!!!”
Reviewed February 23, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We went on holiday for a long weekend to The Old School House as a family, Mums Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Nanas, Grandpas and a whole rake of kids ranging from 2-10 years old, this house did not disappoint, ITS HUGE!!!, VERY QUIRKY, with bedrooms and bathrooms everywhere, the online video does this place no justice I have to say!, the kids had a ball running around everywhere, there wasn't a cross word between them the whole time, and that in turn makes the adults delighted!, yes it could do with updating and sprucing up a little, but we just loved it!!!, the house is right in the heart of the gorgeous village of Middleham, the wee shop, (that sells everything!), the race horses that cross your window frequently, the super-friendly pubs that sell mouth watering food, (The Black Bull especially), Nicky is amazing!! the local folk who are so nice and welcoming!, whether you want to do nothing but relax in front of the fantastic fire, or go out walking to tourist spots, you will not be disappointed with this choice!!, we cant wait to go back!!!
Also, the owner Steve was so nice, helpful and friendly!
Thanks so much once again!!!,We will have nothing but fond memories of Middlham x

“Absolutely Fantastic”
Reviewed February 2, 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We had a lovely stay here with our family (9 adults and 6 children). The house is absolutely spectacular. Ideally situated within the beautiful village of Middleham and handy for exploring the whole area. It's really quirky too -perfect for families with kids. Rooms are enormous, everything beautifully decorated., toasty and warm with comfy beds to boot. Pictures really don't do it justice - the house is huge (our children went around on scooters!). Can't wait to go back -Thanks a million!

“One in a Million”

What a house - impressive from the outside and even better than the photos. Shared between 4 families and easily accommodated 15 people. A children's paradise - hide & seek will never be the same again!
A kitchen with every utensil, masses of pans, plates, glasses & cutlery which is not the case at other rental properties. New Year Dinner for 15 at one table was a success.
Fantastic location within walking distance of Richard 3rd with it's amazing meals and friendly welcome. Accommodating guide at Middleham castle who very kindly allowed us access even though he'd officially closed. Would love to return. Definitely so far the house to beat.

“Weekends away don't get better than this”
Reviewed July 24, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

A big thank you to Steve and the team for a wonderful stay at School House. We, 14 of us in total, had an amazing weekend & the accommodation played a big part in that - stunning. Everything about it was scaled up to comfortably accommodate large parties. We found it clean and full of charm. A family game of cricket in the back garden & an after-dark game of hide&seek were two highlights. Situated in a lovely, welcoming village. Couldn't have been happier. Steve especially was a great bloke to deal with. Thanks again.

“Quirky and fun in a great location”

We used the full capacity of the house with daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Everyone enjoyed the quirky building - a former school complete with bell tower - and the garden was quite large enough for small children to let off steam. We parked 5 vehicles inside the gates without a problem.
Most of the conversion work, done in 2011 (I think) is good and workmanlike but there has been a bit of cheese-paring with the finishing touches in some areas. The light flimsy WC seats are loose and it can be somewhat disconcerting for adults and children when the seat suddenly slips sideways! The stair carpet is showing its wear badly and the fitting on the stairs and in some bedrooms looks a bit home-made.
Nevertheless, I great location for a family weekend, three pubs and the village store all within 50 yards. Everyone most helpful and friendly. We might do it again!

“School days are happy days!”
Reviewed April 1, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

The School House was absolutely perfect for my hen weekend.

The house itself is gorgeous, unique, warm, huge, and very nicely furnished. The kitchen was really the heart of the home - much time was spent around the kitchen table with glasses (ok, bottles) of wine. The beds are comfy, the patio is great, and there's loads of parking.

We liked having so much space so guests can spend time together but also go and relax on their own or in groups if they want.

Everyone we dealt with in the village was incredibly friendly and helpful - Fairhurst's Bistro, Handley's Coaches, the local shop, and the various pubs.

Once again, a big thank you to Steve, Daiva and Alex (who met us when we arrived and was very sweet). Nothing was too much trouble - early check in when there wasn't a group in the day before, switching the heating and hot water on before we got there. All good. A very special place for a 'once in a lifetime' gathering.
