Best Western Plus Kenwick Park Hotel
Ranked #2 of 3 Hotels in Louth
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 11, 2013

For a business hotel Kenwick Park provides what you would expect from a Best Western hotel. It is clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly, and the self service cooked breakfast is excellent. There is a good bar and places to relax in the evening. In the restaurant if you go with the specials menus such as fish night the food is good value and large portions. Sandwiches for lunch are generally pretty good.

However Kenwick Park is not such good value for an up market stay. The hotel decor is rather tired. The main evening menu is expensive, with some main courses being almost £20, and the food is just not very good. The wine is very ordinary for the price. The waiting staff are pleasant enough but not very attentive. You would expect a lot better as you are paying as much as you would pay in London or for an out of London Michelin starred restaurant.

I cannot really comment on the gym, spa or golf course as I have not used them but the gym looks popular and well kitted out.

I don't normally stay at Best Western as in the past I have not had great experiences. This hotel is being refurbished, so ask for a refurb room.
Mine wasn't and I stayed in a block away from the main hotel building. The room was large and clean, but the facilities clearly dated with an avocado bath suite and peach coloured towels.
The main reception area is great and I found the staff to be extremely pleasant and friendly so would highly recommend a stay, as I said just seek a refurb room.

We didn't stay at this hotel overnight but I went with my Mum and a friend for a spa day. Firstly we knew before we booked that these facilities attached to a hotel rather than a 'proper spa' but we were still very disappointed with the facilities and the overall experience.

Our appointments were spread out over a very long time period from 10am -6pm (8 hours!) but there were no facilities in between for us to relax. There was seating next to reception but it resembles an old people's home and was freezing cold the day we were there. For each appointment we had to get undressed and then redressed as there were no robes provided or relaxation area for between appointments. We basically spent the day waiting around in a cold room for our next appointment - not very relaxing! We tried to move the appointments when we found out how limited the facilities were and were told they were fully booked all day. This is strange as we saw only 2 other people in the treatment area all day.

There is a swimming pool which was very busy and also used for children's swimming lessons, a small luke-warm jacuzzi and a small sauna and stream room. The changing facilities provided were very poor - more a kin to a local public poor than a spa.

The included 'Light Lunch' was at the 'Brambles Restaurant' that turned out to the pool side cafe and was a sandwich and drink. The same cafe then shut at 3pm the day we were there (having maintenance work undertaken) meaning we couldn't even buy a drink or slice of cake later in the day and the freezing cold room we were waiting in now had chorus of drill sounds in the background.

The treatments were fine but varied in quality between therapist. Also there was no paper underwear (we were told there was none but not why - not sure if they had run out or never have any) which is quite important for a scrub type treatment. My therapist was very grumpy and another therapist telling other people in my party how rubbish the place was and that we should complain.

Needless to say we did send a letter after our day - the short response was 'we are not a spa so you shouldn't have expected those facilities- also you got a good deal'. We did indeed pay, what we thought was a good price when booking, however if we had known the lack of facilities and the overall atmosphere and experience we had we would have paid more and gone elsewhere. The response to our complaint also said that there were planning to build a relaxation room for day guests and provide robes. If this happens I think it would address some of our issues but probably not all. In the meantime I don't think it is fair for the hotel to continue to sell day packages with the facilities it has. I would not go back to this hotel spa and would advise anyone thinking of booking to proceed with caution!

We have quite a lot of experience with restaurant food throughout Europe and can recommend. Kenwick Park Hotel very highly. Try the diningroom which has excellent ampiance
with the quality of dinner and wine close to outstanding. This establishment is almost certainly currently the best for fine dining in the North Lincolnshire area

Spent two nights here this week. The room seemed to be along endless corridors but we were reward with a comfortable family sized room with a pleasant view over parkland. I was a little concerned that the hot water tap in the bathroom sink was not affixed to the underneath of the basin and was more like a standpipe sticking up through the hole in the white porcelain. It was very loose. That said however, the breakfast was satisfactory and the one dinner we had was much better than the one we had elsewhere on the second evening. The service, although a bit on the slow side, was very attentive and the staff all very pleasant. Overall, a clean place to stay in an impressive location in the Lincolnshore countryside.

Consistency must be difficult to achieve in a hotel, having so many functions and departments. Some sections of this hotel were really good - and some were not.

The Reception was ok and very efficient.

Unbelievably there is no lift. We were in the first floor and nobody had checked whether that was going to be a problem. It wasn't - but actually a couple of years ago it very definitely would have been.

The room was very pleasant - and spotless.

One breakfast was spent watching a member of staff using her spray cleaner on tables around us. The other was a challenge to hear each other as staff banged & clattered their clearing up of cutlery, plates etc. But the food was quite good.

We had one evening dinner. The food arrived 50 minutes after the time we had booked, so we ate later than we find comfortable. But the quality was fine, when it came.

So, quite a mixture really.

Add a lift, speed up the restaurant - and we will return.
