“One Year Anniversary Meal”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

We went to the Priory for our Wedding Breakfast and Reception one year ago and had an experience that we wished to undertake every year to celebrate our marriage. We had an exceptional Wedding Breakfast and all of our guest still rave about the food, which was wonderful and we considered this our fairytale meal which was only for our special day, but I'm overjoyed that the care and consideration of the experience at Serendipity did not let us down and in our mind never could. The staff remembered our Fool and Pyjama reception and it was like being around old friends, the new member of staff that we hadn't met before was very engaging and talkative making our pre-meal drinks a pleasure. Unfortunately there were not many guests for a meal, but at times there was cross-party conversation and a sing song of Happy Birthday to the Birthday Girl that evening. The meal, what can I say: each course was expertly crafted in texture, colour, taste and quantity. The staff were courteous and knowledgable of each complex course, Becky who was front of house was preempting our every need, but not overbaring Thirteen courses or so later and numerous palet cleansers (which complimented each course expertly) we were both full and happy, struggling to eat chocolates at the end of the meal. We have now booked for the next year to enjoy our Cotton Anniversary. It is an experience of a lifetime that everyone should experience, just remember that there is no fixed menu and that's the fun of it, and who knows it might become the lifelong tradition like it has for us. Paul, the chef, is the up and coming Heston Blumenthal of Louth if not better.

“Quirky, entertaining, must do activity in Louth”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

On many levels, this was not a standard restaurant experience and we haven't stopped talking about it since we left. The mystery tasting menu contained many good, inventive dishes although we thought there were probably too many palette cleansers that didn't all add to the experience. The wine list was somewhat limited but the Pouilly Fuisse we selected was excellent and good value. As an ending to the meal, the petit fours were an excellent closer to a very enjoyable evening.
We should also mention the staff and service delivered by them. Becky did a good job in doing most of the front of house roles and was enthusiastically accompanied by a troupe of young men who went about their tasks with gusto, sometimes a little too much, but with the best intentions to show interest in the guests and make them feel part of the experience. The chef Paul welcomed us on arrival and came out again at end of service to chat about the food and ethos of the restaurant, which was a nice touch.
Overall a memorable evening.

Thank you for taking the time to review us and we are pleased that you had an enjoyable evening overall. I do appreciate that our wine list has to be a little streamlined due to our size but will definitely look at this as we consider our wine offering for Spring and Summer so thanks for raising that. I also must say thank you for understanding that we try to offer opportunities to people who may be otherwise over looked. We are constantly working with all the team to help them strike the balance between genuine enthusiasm and efficient service. We hope to welcome you back and thank you very much for your time.

“Embaracing”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

I have decided to write this review after much thought as I am surprised at the amount of good reviews it has attracted and this seems rather strange!
We ate at Serendipity in January and it was a cold evening inside and outside as there was snow on the ground. We arrived at 7.30 and were still hungry at 10pm. James was the doorman but otherwise there was no-one at the front of house. There was very little food; most courses would easily fit inside the cap of a deodorant can lid. The chef had been creative with the tastes although it was difficult to experience fully, due to the portion control. This restaurant had been recommended and we were looking forward to a pleasant evening with food. We were served two miniature sausage rolls on a slate and told we had to share, this was one course and was placed in front of me and I had to pass it to my partner. We had to guess what we were eating as only some courses were explained.
At 10pm we asked for the bill and left; embarrassed as the waitress asked if we were hungry? I realised at this point that guests were offered coffee mid-meal, as it would not only fill, but also warm their stomach. The bill came to £120.00 for the food, plus coffee. The bar bill was approximately £30 for a bottle of Merlo and two gin and tonics. We left a £6 tip.
I telephoned the following day to be told by the chef’s wife that she had been at home that evening looking after their children. A few sentences later she then told me she was at the restaurant and no one else had complained, rather odd!! I then found reviews that were similar to this one on Trip advisor.
I want people to know what kind of experience they are going to get at Serendipity. We were meant to take two friends, thank goodness we didn’t, how embarrassing it would have been.
Advice- If you are having the taster menu, eat before you go! And take plenty of money to give away!

We completely endorse the open and honest forum that tripadvisor provides but believe very strongly that this review is a rehash of a recent review that we have already responded to and have reported it as such to the tripadvisor management.

We are as always committed to providing a relaxed and special evening inspired by the produce and seasons of our county, Thank you very much for reading, while we are waiting for a response from tripadvisor all we can ask is that you balance this review off against all of our other reviews.

We are far from perfect but care greatly about what we do and every day throw everything we have into each dinner service and as a restaurant that doesn't advertise appreciate the importance of a good reputation.

“Outstanding!”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We went to The Priory for meal and to sum it up, WOW! The place was amazing, all the staff are lovely, the greeting at the door was a lovely touch, the food was perfect. Being a vegetarian it can be hard to find something suitable to eat, but everything the Chef made was lovely. I even tried food I didn't think I would like! The service by everyone was brilliant, so helpful, polite, they couldn't do enough for us. The Chef even takes his time to talk to you, to ensure everything is OK. I would highly recommend The Priory to everyone. I can honestly say its the nicest place I have ever been for everything. Lots of lovely personal touches, it was all perfect. Thank you so much :o)
