“The Best Indian”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

I have been eating here for the past few years. We are spoilt for choice with the amount of different places in Boston we can eat at. But The Rose of Bengal I would recommend to anybody who loves curry or has never tried it the different types of dishes will suit everybody and the friendly staff well worth a visit.

“great food, lousy drink choice”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

Stopped off here again for a Sunday lunch. Service was polite and courteous even though we had arrived before their opening time. Starters for both of us were a mixed platter of onion bhaji, shami kebab and lamb and chicken tikka. The bhaji was the best I have had but the shami kebab was more like a tasteless burger. The dishes generally lacked spice. The chicken hawalli and the chicken Achari were great and the rice was as good as it gets. However, today the batura yoghurt bread (my favourite) arrived rather oily - not necessary and unwelcome. The biggest disappointment is in the choice of drinks. No one in their right minds would want to drink wine with spicy Indian/Bangladeshi food so I checked the beer list. Only one 'draught' listed which turned out to be very fizzy keg - it might as well have come out of a bottle! It would not take a great deal of effort to keep a few widget cans on the bar shelf!

“Boston's best Indian”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

The Rose of Bengal is the only 'Indian' restaurant that I would use in Boston. It stands head and shoulders above others. Mixed starters were of good quality, if lacking a little 'heat'. Main course chicken pathia was a little disappointing. It was nowhere near as hot as one would have expected. The chicken was cut into rather large lumps and had clearly been cooked separately from the sauce (a common habit in 'Indian' restaurants). This resulted in tasteless chicken in a flavoursome sauce. The batura yoghurt bread was absolutely gorgeous and highly recommended - beats the pants off naans anytime. Service was pleasant and efficient. A message to the chef: 'How about cutting the meat up a little smaller and marinating it before cooking?'

“Best in town”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Very good food and friendly service at a reasonable price. Our favourite in town we try others but always end up coming back here.
