“Great location, great food, great experience”

A one-night stay away from our very hectic schedule at home provided a most welcome break including an excellent dinner. Having eaten here before, albeit 5+ years ago the standard of the food and wine has not altered, still outstanding with staff helpful and accommodating to allergy issues (shame they didn't know the difference between a blackberry & blueberry though). Delightful rooms with tranquil views onto the vines and a good hearty breakfast to send us on our way home again. Not cheap but quality at a fair price.

We booked here for two nights on our way from Cornwall to Chelmsford. As we booked only one day before arrival the room choice was limited to one and included a wet room. We were informed about the room when booking but were not told it was adapted for disability. This should not be a problem but the shower did not work. The shower was repaired promptly in the morning and a complimentary bottle of fizz was provided with dinner. The food was very good and the ambiance of the restaurant and lounge was pleasing. Some of the staff were aloof and the reception is in the shop which closes at 5.00 pm. Between 5 and 6 pm staff access was limited. This should be an excellent and unusual place, but lack of general maintenance, cobwebs, spiders, painting and attention to detail spoiled the experience.

This was our second visit to the three choirs we needed somewhere to stay halfway home from north Wales. We found last time that the resturant was excellent and that had not changed and very pricey that had not changed perhaps if the prices were lower the resturant would enjoy more customers and therefore have more atmosphere. However it is a nice place to stay as long as you accept it will cost a lot.

This was my second visit, both times with friends (left the other half at home!). We stayed in a lodge room - stunning. The space and outdoor decking was lovely. The meal was great, wine very good. Service for breakfast and dinner was great on both days.
The shop sells all the wine and its a great place to pick up a bottle and take back to the room (mini bar prices are alot higher than shop).
Loved the tour, our guide Lauren was informatitve and fun.
I will return.

It is a daily pleasure for the French to drink wine at lunch overlooking the rolling vineyards whence it came but in England it is the rarest of treats. This can be accomplished at 3 Choirs Vineyard and the informative tour at either 11am or 3pm with lunch in between comes highly recommended. As the production is small I saw machines in operation that I never have during numerous such tours abroad. The degorgement, corking and labelling machines were a particular delight to see in operation.
If one can overlook the dark and styleless dining room the food is good. Soup and a shared platter of meats was very nice but we were not so happy to be presented with the same soup and (excepting 2 main courses) an identical menu for dinner. Cauliflower soup had become curried cauliflower soup by the addition of a teaspoon of curry oil. It was funny. Rib eye steak was tender and delicious as was plaice and high class desserts.
This is where is ends however and since this is a hotel review I shall move on. This is of course not a hotel but a restaurant with rooms, that is made clear. The 8 rooms are in a purpose built brick block very close to the main house. Parking is very tight. It was pouring with rain when we arrived and the porch like overhang had not been made wide enough to protect guests from inclement weather as they unlock their doors. Inside the rooms are of an acceptable size with bath, ample hot water, comfortable bed, lavish tea tray and digital TV. They are also dark, ill lit, hopelessly out of date, without wifi connection and altogether in need of total refurbishment. A row of coat hooks by the door were hanging off the wall (photo) and the small outdoor terrace had not been tended or swept for what looked like weeks (photo). Impossible to read in bed due to ill thought out lighting. This 1980's theme continues in the dining room which could be so very nice but isn't because like everything else it's 30 years out of date. It also seems that everything has been done rather on the cheap back in the 80's by someone with doubtful taste.
All this could be taken with a shrug of the shoulders if it were not for the preposterous price. £165 for the room & breakfast, £35 for dinner. I would suggest a 40% reduction on that price for the rooms as they are right now. The owners appear to have rested on their laurels for far too long resulting in an overall dishevelled and dark depressing air throughout. I am sure that being accustomed to the look of the place they have become complacent and are blind to how it all appears to the first time overnight visitor. We will not be going back. If you value your cash you should think twice and then again before staying.

Room Tip: Rooms are identical and none are good.

My wife and I stayed at Three Choirs in one of their lodges which are situated amongst the vines. The lodge was excellent, really really impressed with the comfort, the quality of the fixing and the decor as well as the outdoor veranda area. The location is spot on as well, being amongst the vines we saw all sorts of wildlife passing by from the comfort of our veranda.

Took a lovely long walk around the whole vineyard which is in a beautiful spot. We also dined at the restaurant, had a fabulous meal there. Also brought several bottles of Three Choirs own wine home with us, loved it!

Our only slight negative was the winery tour we went on, didn't last very long and wasn't as informative as I'd hoped. Although the content was good, it centred mainly around the winery's machinery and indoor processes, I was hoping for a little more of an outdoors walk through the vines telling me about the grapes and growing conditions etc, (A bit like on the film - Sideways perhaps!), this was only a small gripe however. Overall we loved the place and will certainly go back for a longer stay!

Came here for a 2 night wine tasting stay on 10th August after adopting a vine for my husband at Christmas. Our room was spotless, comfortable and had a great view over the vineyard, the staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us and the food and wine fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
