Not an expensive place to visit at an entrance fee of £1, but there is only a bit of history to see. The guide is rather over enthusiastic and likes the sound of his own voice. I prefer to go around a museum at my own pace, without being told every minute detail !

This tiny 'no airs or graces' museum is a little gem. Packed with fascinating exhibits that provide an interesting and informative insight into Harwich's maritime history, it occupies three floors, the upper ones accessed by short, but very steep stairs. You have to come down backwards! All part of the unique experience this museum offers. The views from the top floor are not to be missed. Yes, you could see everything in 5 minutes, but you should really linger a while to read the captions, take in the stories and speak to the helpful and friendly volunteer staff. Entry price £1 and well behaved dogs are welcome on the ground floor.

This little museum is great fun with enthusiastic and helpful staff.

High ladders in side so some care needs to be taken.

Well worth a visit

Nice little museum with a fantastic view from the balcony that looks over the Harwich seafront. Worth a visit but dont expect to be in there for ages, we were in there for about 10 minutes. The stairs to get up to the top are very steep and you have to come down backwards when leaving so might not be easy for everyone.
I would recommend going on a day when the redoubt fort and high lighthouse are also open, make more of a day of it.

The lighthouse is fascinating but you can get everything from it in about 5 minutes if you take your time.

It is rarely open and even then a very short visit is all that you need.

That said it makes a great landmark and place to drink your flask when it's windy!
