Recently stayed At The Tower Hotel, had one of the executive rooms (Bagshaw) which was nicely decorated with many period features, very roomy with a large comfy bed, and good en-suite facilities. Room/Hotel throughout was extremely clean. We received excellent service and the breakfast was good. We also had a snack in the "Beatles" Bar and found that to be a reasonable price. Very pleasant outside area. Within walking distance of Dovercourt Beach and shops and a short drive into Harwich. Loved it. Would stay again.

I booked this hotel because of the location close to the ferry and the fact that it had internet available in the entire hotel.
The location was correct, the internet not. "No internet available in the room" the lady at check in told us. Would that have been mentioned on the website I would not have booked.
Room was hot, windows could only barely (less than two inches) be opened, no fan available, horrible food in the restaurant, poor neighbourhood etc.
Really can not say much good about this place, avoid it if you can....

Stayed for 1 night in the Jones Suite having booked on booking.com. Annoyed as the website made out it was the last available room and it was more than we wanted to pay however went for it to find only 3 rooms were booked in the entire hotel. Not the hotels fault. Room was decorated using original heritage techniques with coving, panels, fancy paintwork. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a whirlpool bath and separate shower. The staff were friendly and helpful and the bar area and gardens were comfortable and clean. The food menu looked interesting with both the restaurant and bar serving the same menu. Attention was needed to certain details such as light fittings not working but they wouldn't spot this during the day. Many bulbs were out in the central light fitting and the sofa at the end of the bed had to be moved as you couldn't see the TV from the bed but was easily moved and plenty of space to move it to as the room was very large. There were double windows looking out onto the garden which has a fountain and paved seating areas with piped music.Did have to remove a previous occupants hair from the shower but other than that was really clean.

Room Tip: Jones Suite is a good sized room for 2 with storage and a good bathroom

We have just returned from a trip to Suffolk/Norfolk and stayed our first night at the Tower Hotel. We paid £78.00 for a twin room and breakfast which I believed it to be good value. The room was compact but had a large shower room - excellent if you are disabled. I had a excellent night's sleep. Their was a fan in the wardrobe which was extremely useful on this rare hot summer's day -
nice surprise! Their gardens/patio area is very pretty. The food offered is, in my opinion, typical pub grub, no different menu if you eat in the bar area, patio area or their restaurant, which is a shame as their is hardly anywhere decent to eat in the area, so this is a lost opportunity for them to think about. Breakfast is OK with poor quality sausages being offered but I have to mention, that the young waitress who served us, was extremely unhelpful. At first we thought she was shy rather than ignorant, but on watching her, ignorance won. She wasn't interested in any way or form, unlike the older waitress, who had just finished the night shift and was helping out at breakfast, she was the saving grace - pleasant, helpful and a very nice person. Their is hardly any shops in DoverCourt/Harwich but the seafront is very pleasant, so I would not recommend if you just want a weekend away but if you are travelling to take a cruise out of Harwich, for a one night stop, you should consider this Hotel, as it is the best in the area.

Room Tip: Due to shower room in Room 5, if you are disabled, request this room. On ground floor with a disabl...

I booked rather late using booking.com and reluctantly accepted the only available room for GBP 79, which was described as 'luxury decor'. So I was expecting something special. The location was not ideal, being a good 40 min walk to decent off-site restaurants and also not close to the ferry terminal. The neighbourhood is relatively quiet though. It was a warm day, but my room was oppressively hot. I needed to sleep with the windows open which made it less quiet. The room was well appointed, but was really for 3 or 4 persons. The gigantic main bed was soft and a bit lumpy, and to avoid overheating I had to remove the duvet from its cover and use the latter as a sheet. The shower was ok, but there was no bath-tub that one would expect in a luxury room for >3. There was also no proper desk chair and no free WiFi. I had to unplug the TV at the wall socket to prevent an annoying blue standby light from blinking brightly all night. Sunday breakfast was served only from 8.30 leaving insufficient time before last checkin for the daily ferry crossing to Holland. I just skipped it, but the co-op next door is open from 7, so I was able to grab some snack foods there before leaving. In the evening I noticed a sign on the front desk, asking guests to settle their bill the night before departure, if leaving before 8. I asked about this and wad told there would definitely be someone there from 8 on. However, when I went to checkout at 8.10 the desk was unmanned and nobody came when I rang the bell. So I just left the booking.com confirmation, with a scrawled note to charge the same card as used to guarantee the booking.

Booked so called family room, two rooms with door in between appeared to be separate rooms with a hall in between, 'just keep doors open and close hall door' we were told. Two worn out rooms with absolutely NO ventilation, nor ventilation possibilities due to closed hall door. Small twin bed, bad matras, not suited for adults. Kids room very dark, bad beds, cracky and squeeky floor. Bad smell from restaurant. We did not sleep due to warmth and lack of air. Turned out to be most expensive hotel we stAyed in during our time in UK. Never again

The second time we have stayed at The Tower and it;s better than ever. This visit we stayed in the Pattrick room, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The bathroom, complete with Jacussi bath and separate shower was spotless and supplied with very good quality towels and toiletries incl razor, and shaving foam and toothbrush and paste. Bedroom facilities even included CD player in the clock radio. Plenty of complimentry beverages including hot chocolate and milk pots . Lovely comfortable King Size bed and plump pillows,

We had Full English Breakfast which was very good - nice sausages and particullarly succulent and thick bacon, poached egg, mushrooms and baked beans plus as much cereal , juice etc as you wanted. More toast , more tea or coffee nothing was too much trouble for the lovely friendly servers.

Dinner in either the elegant dining room or the comfortable and friendly bar was equally good and excellent value. The Beatles themed Rigby;s Bar has good atmosphere and was well patronised by both hotel guests and non-residents. The adjoining terrace area and garden was very pleasant for drinks after dinner.

I cannot fault The Tower on facilities or service which was efficient and very friendly. If you want stuffy olf fashioned service go somewhere else. If you want excellent friedly service from a great staff team with a sence of humour then The Tower is your sort of hotel, It deserves more than the 3 stars it's got.

Room Tip: If available choose one of the named rooms rather than the numbered standard rooms. They are well wo...
