“Cheese Omelette”

We ate at the Pilot two nights during our stay
Their menu was mostly fish (no complaints about that as it is by the coast. However we just wanted a light meal the last night and ordered cheese omelettes. They were like rubber!!!

They say the meals are cooked to order I dont thing these were - it was as if they were cooked before and microwaved

We should have sent them back but being British we suffered in silence but wont be back.

2 years ago you could enjoy either their Farmers (Cheese) or Platters (Ham) ploughmans lunch for around 5 pound 50 pence and it was really good value. Large slab of cheese or a thick slice of ham carved off a joint, a generous slice of pork pie various salad items, home made chutney complete with a large wedge of homemade bread. NOT NOW! Thin slice of supermarket packet ham, cheap tasteless small piece of cheddar cheese, a poor rocket salad comprising of a bit of rocket, 2 cherry tomatoes, 3 small pieces of cucumber, budget coleslaw and chutney and a small wedge of slightly stale bread. You can suffer this poor lunch for the new 2013 price of seven pounds 50p. This was a real disappointment and one that will not be repeated! About the worst value for money we’ve come across in many a year. Never again Pilot Boat Inn.

My title sums up this pub really but for anyone wanting more information: the staff were very pleasant and eager to help. Our party of four plus two dogs were welcomed in and when we asked if we could move the tables the waitress even helped us do it. In terms of food, I would recommend you go for the classic pub dishes. Steak and kidney pie was alright; crab salad not so much. Their menu is ambitious but unfortunately hit and miss -- stick to the classics and you should be fine. This works financially as well as the ambitious food tends to be overpriced whereas the simple dishes are good value for money. No draught coke/soda etc at all so don't expect cheap soft drinks, but although we didn't drink alcohol I get the impression this pub is good for a pint.
Overall? Definitely worth a visit if you're in Lyme Regis with a dog. Not the best food but perfectly edible and the welcoming atmosphere makes up for it anyway.

Passing through LR we stopped off for some dinner
The Pilot is an attractive pub. The menu looks excellent.
The staff and service were very friendly and they are happy to accomodate the kids.
All great, except that everyone's food was just not very good, and it was fairly expensive to boot.
The "local" fish was bland, and the "west country" burger should more accurately have been called the "Iceland" burger.
Shame. Probably ok for a pint. Just don't recommend the pricey food.
