The attention to detail mentioned by other reviewers is certainly clear to see when you open the door and is a theme echoed throughout the place. Literally every appliance, switch, cupboard, and handle (even the windows) has a label directing you how to use it. Firstly the positives: the place was exceptionally clean and well presented; the breakfast basket was noticeably well stocked; the hot tub was a joy to use. However, I soon tired of the green theme. Everything was green, from the colour of the kitchen utensils to the towels and bedding. You simply could not get away from the green and the labels and after four days I was really glad to leave this OCD heaven. Anyway, moving on. I know that this is meant to be retreat from the stress of modern life but wi-fi should be available (particularly at the prices charged). On a practical note,we noticed that our small hatchback grounded at the exit of the driveway. A car with greater ground clearance should have no trouble though. Bottom line is would I return here? The answer is a clear no. The place is set amid truly beautiful countryside, yet the view comprised only of the pale yellow brick wall of the adjoining building towering above you. The place cost us £160 a night for four nights and was not worth it. Interestingly, I am certain the owner knew we were not impressed since she didn't once ask us if we were enjoying ourselves. I guess that it depends on your preferences, If you like being told what to do, and like green, then this may well be perfect for you. But for us, there are plenty of other places that offer a better setting and much better value.
Lovely clean accomodation, stunningly quiet and joys complimentry bread is devine. We would definatly book again
Wonderful host, friendly and warming.
Everything you needed.
Excellent place to be, weather pulled out luckily.
I booked The Retreat as a weekend away for my Husband's 40th. From the first contact with Joy, i knew i'd chosen well. On arrival we were shown around, and shown the workings of the hot tub. The accommodation was perfect and every little detail was thought of which definitely helped with the relaxation aim of our trip!
The hot tub didn't disappoint (main reason for booking!), it was fantastic. We did have a slight problem with it and Joy came straight round to have a look and offered us to use her spare hot tub which we were more than happy to do and it didn't take anything away from the whole experience.
On the first night we ordered Pizza from 'Le Pisani' who were able to deliver to The Retreat.
We visited Lyme Regis, which was stunning and has a lovely choice of restaurants along the sea front.
On the 2nd night we popped along to the Hunters Inn on an off chance as we hadn't booked, but can definitely recommend booking as is mentioned! So we ended up going to The Talbot Arms, left out of Hedgehog corner and about 1.5 miles down the road. Very nice friendly small pub, lovely food.
Almost forgot to mention the breakfast basket, absolutely amazing. Lovely produce.
Thank you Joy for such a wonderful place to stay and for being so welcoming and going above and beyond.
We shall definitely be returning!
Beautiful, modern and very private cottage. The cottage is stunning & spacious. Joy has really gone above and beyond with the little touches that make the stay so special. Very, very comfy king size bed. We have never had a nights sleep as good as at The Retreat!! Private parking. The large amazing hot tub is completely private. You are not being over looked by anyone at all. 2 minute walk to a lovely pub that serves great food (Hunters Lodge Inn, Axminster). 5 minute drive to Lyme Regis town centre & beach front. Cheap parking.
We went to celebrate my birthday and had such a great time. We will definitely be going back soon!!
Thank you for an amazing stay.
We stayed at The Retreat at the end of August 2017 and from the start were made to feel very welcome by Joy. The Retreat itself is tucked away with a private hot tub, parking space, pretty little garden and the accommodation was clean, comfortable and well organised with every home comfort.
The breakfast basket was well stocked with fresh eggs, homemade bread and other useful and tasty items.
The location itself is also brilliant in that you are close to Lyme Regis, Bridport, Charmouth and other popular local attractions. There is also a pub right on the doorstep which serves reasonably priced tasty food with a varied menu.
Everything you need is provided for, by Joy, to make your stay memorable. The accommodation is modern, clean and very comfortable. The hot tub was very welcome after a long day of walking.
