For £10 per adult we bagged places on a fossil walk, and free entry to the museum. I want to talk here about the fossil walk.

We spent over 4 hours fossil hunting on the beach in a group of approx 12. The guides were amazing. The walk leader, Chris, was informative, helpful and contagiously enthusiastic.

The first 40 mins or so involved walking from the museum over to Monmouth beach, while Chris took us through some background, orientation and safety. Then we combed the beach for specimens, Chris and Tom happy to "open" likely rocks for us (some folks brought their own hammers) and to share interesting specimens with the group. Chris and Tom also looked out for specimens and shared them out amongst the group, so we had the benefit of experienced eyes. Chris was happy to stay out with us until the tide started to turn, but some folks went back early.

As a bonus, Chris invited everyone to pop in to his shop - The Fossil Workshop - to have their fossils cleaned up. We took advantage of this, and enjoyed extra info on our specific examples as well. He must've spent half an hour or so with us, and refused payment. The Fossil Workshop is in the basement of the Teddy Bear Shop on the main street.

Overall it was a very enjoyable experience and a pleasure to spend time with someone so enthusiastic and generous.

We loved this museum we actually first visited last summer but was taken back during a local walk based on Mary Anning and her life. It is reasonably sized and students get in for free, but we wanted to pay. Once you pay you get a ticket valid for a year which is brilliant. We are looking at coming back to Lyme Regis this summer so will definately be visiting again.

We visited with children, who did the quiz provided. It was a fun little museum, full of local history and information, although not enough on fossils for my son! It's a good size (not too large for children to get bored) and lots on Mary Anning and other fossil hunters.

We popped in here after booking a Fossil Walk (a must do!).

After walking through what I thought was 'the usual' museum type of room I reached the central staircase which took my breath away- not to say the rest was un-interesting, I just love a beautiful building!

This is without doubt the most interesting museum and building I have ever seen, I often find myself yawning after the first 3 minutes or so- but not with this one! :)

I loved the collection of clothing and also the local art collection and of course the Jurassic collections!

If you do anything when in Lyme, you must come here and also book a fossil walk as it is so interesting! :)

This was an excellent attraction at very little cost as we only had to pay for the adults just over £7.00 and the children went free. The museum is only small but they had quizzes for the children and the artifacts were very interesting. They had costumes you could try on and a cabinet that had magnifying glasses to look into to see various fifferent types of fossils. It took just over an hour to go round and well worh a vist.
