Owner description: "A delightful and remarkable museum, a gem" - Sir David Attenborough. Extended in 2017, discover 185 million years of history at this charming and friendly museum with stunning views of Lyme Bay. Families are very welcome - it's free for children to visit and there is plenty to keep them busy in the new interactive geology gallery and learning centre. There are fossils galore, and you can combine your visit with a fossil walk to really make the most of your day out. Inside you will find a wonderful interior and displays that tell fascinating stories about fossil collecting and geology on the Jurassic Coast, and the personalities who played a key part such as renowned fossilist Mary Anning. You will also find displays about the artists and writers inspired by Lyme including John Fowles and Jane Austen along with the story of the famous Cobb, the Civil War and every aspect of the town's rich history. Please check website for seasonal opening times and for entry prices.

This was a late birthday present and was brilliant, made more so by the enthusiasm of the two guides Chris and Paddy, would highly recommend both this and the museum attached.

Mary Anning was here! Interesting historical info about Anning, Jane Austin etc. Lots to see plus HIGHLY recommend the Fossil walk of 3+ hours on Charmouth beech, booked at the Museum for £10 pp with excellent guides Paddy & Chris. The time flies! Lots to find, very fascinating & educational for kids & adults alike. An invigorating few hours spent!

PLEASE book onto the fossil tour if you have even the smallest of interest in fossils! The tour guides are fantastic! Fountains of knowledge as well as entertaining! £10 per person. Lasted 4 hours and took us cross the beach to the main areas of rocky landslides/cliffs in search of fossils. We went on a very sunny day which although was lovely made fossil hunting slightly more difficult. The sea has been calm for a few days which restricts the number of fossils washing out from the cliffs. However the guides were enthusiastic and endeavoured to find some which we did and everyone left with an interesting collection of fossils to take home. Really couldn't rate this trip higher!
We're a couple in our early 30's and enjoyed this as much as the older couples and families who were with us.
The ticket also allows you entry to the museum.

We just wanted to pop in to have a look round as I remember it from childhood - it was FREE then! - to find that entry was by paying a year's subscription only. NO day rates! So I am afraid that we said our piece and walked away. What sort of policy is that for the countless short-term visitors. How much more would they take if they had a small daily entrance fee? Very short-sighted.
