Cobb Arms
Ranked #16 of 45 Lyme Regis B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 11, 2013

We stayed here early March. We were impressed with the food. The welcome was great, as always. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. This B & B is excellent value for money and you can't get better views in our opinion.

Room Tip: Room 3 has a view of the harbour and sea and a double shower in the en suite

stayed in lyme regis early march however we did not stay at the cobb arms we did eat there in the evenings, and had no complaints with the food or the price. The sausage and mash is great. In fact we have eaten at more swankier places and paid a fortune then went home and made supper

We recently stayed at the cobb arms. For one night but wish it had been longer! Staff were extremely friendly and the food was generous and delicious. Would have liked a better entrance to the rooms rather than past the kitchen or by the bins but this was the only negative we had! Nice rooms and very comfy bed yet wish we didn't have the bunkbed in there. We stiill had plenty of room however. Can't wait to visit again!

This may have been an acceptable seaside boarding house a few decades ago, but is` really not good enough by today’s standards, especially given the relatively upmarket tariff. I can only assume the hotel gets away with it on the grounds of its prime location.

The room was a medium sized double, made intolerably cramped by shoehorning in an ugly metal framed loft bed with sofa underneath. The overall effect was of being in a hostel. The décor was tired and the fittings cheap and nasty. The maroon marbled bathroom tiles with sculpted white band were so dated they may be due for a comeback and the flat sliding door to the en-suite was only attached along the top, from which it swung if leant on. There was a misguided nod to the contemporary by creating a feature wall, using vibrant, large floral print wallpaper, which was totally incongruous with the rest of the room. This was allegedly the best of their 3 bedrooms. They were approached via stairs in the dingy back hallway, next to the kitchen, and strewn with bins and piles of boxes.

The staff seemed to regard our presence as a mild inconvenience. Although we were given a reasonable time span for breakfast, we were required to pre-book our slot, and told evening meals would only be available up to about 7.30/8.00ish. The menu consisted of unimaginative pub staples and the end result was poor. My oven chips were still firm in the middle.

To be fair, there were a few positives aside from the location. The room was warm and quiet and the shower excellent. Most unexpected, however, especially given dinner, was the exceptional and substantial breakfast. There was lots of choice from good quality, well prepared produce, including a fresh fruit salad and fromage frais, served by a cheerful and very attentive lady.

On balance, this was not quite the romantic mini-break we had hoped for, but I suppose it will give us something to giggle about in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a differnt hotel!

This place has a reasonably varied menu, the staff are friendly, it has a good selection of local ales and the cider selection on tap is excellent (one of the few places where you can get draught Thatchers Old Rascal). However, the quality of the lunch time food let it down badly. My girlfriend's parents (from France) said it was one of the worst meals they'd had in the UK. It didn't rank as one of my worst meals but it was not great. If the food we received was typical then I couldn't really recommend eating here, the food just down the seafront at the Harbour Inn is better.

Service was perfectly adequate and attentive but the food was pretty poor , nasty scallop soggy salad combination, greasy fish cakes, crab salad that was all brown meat and chicken and bacon salad that looked like it had been made last week! Will not be going back which is a great shame because the location is lovely

I thought it seemed quite expensive when we ordered. However when lunch arrived it blew us away........clearly alot of thought has gone into the food in this pub, the portions were huge and it was all fresh and beautifully prepared. Book in for lunch you won`t be disappointed, great value and service with a smile.

Room Tip: We didn`t stay here so can`t comment on the rooms.
