We entered Antonio's with a degree of trepidation having read other reviews on this site. It would seem that you either love him or hate him. We were concerned about being yelled at for choosing the wrong thing on the menu! In fact he is a harmless old buffer. He does like to dominate the room and regale everyone with tales of his favourite subject - himself. Everyone went away knowing how old he is, how many wives he has had, what his sons are doing, where he goes for the winter etc etc. However, we liked him.
The food was home made from fresh ingredients. All very tasty. Strong Italian flavours. Service was prompt.
We took cash, having read previous reviews - but in fact Antonio now has the facility to accept card payments!

This is not a posh Italian nor a Pizza Joint, Antonio tries to deliver a small menu of authentic well cooked Italian meals and he succeeds well. The garlic mushrooms were simple but streets ahead of many I have tasted. I followed that with a hunter' chicken accompanied by boiled potatoes and a dish of lovely courgettes. The half litre of house red was of good quality.
So check the menu , recognize that he is reproducing something you would get in a non-tourist trattoria in Italy and you will enjoy.

We enjoyed last night a great meal with lots of authentic italian food and very reasonably priced, we paid much less than I thought and that was with a good bottle of wine and the wine was good too :-)

Both Antonio and his wife Julie are charming.

And one of the waitresses grandparents came from my home town of Sunbury!

Eat well and enjoy

We had a lovely meal at Antonio's with the children. We hadn't booked and took the last table and they explained there may be a bit of a wait as they were so busy. Antonio is really friendly when he takes the orders and answers any questions about the menu. The drinks and starters arrived in a reasonable time given the expected delay. Main course was a little longer but our expectations were managed and the food was freshly cooked and delicious. I had the crab linguine which was lovely. The kids are picky eaters but really enjoyed the food and the friendly service. Recommended.
