Great communication and a very warm welcombe tea and scone on arrival ( off to a great start )
Made to feel welcombe but left alone not to feel overbearing perfect .
as an older property with charicter but every room imaculatey hoovered and clean which is all you could every ask for on a period property.
We paid what i would consider a very good rate under £90 which included breakfast which was very hot and cooked to perfection and nothing was too much trouble, only downsides if any
wifi not that good coverage in room but downstairs in bar area very good .

We stayed one night at the Harrabeer last weekend. We had warm welcome with tea and scones from Amanda who a made a great fuss of our daughter. The hotel has a nice relaxed atmosphere, the rooms are very clean, our beds were very comfortable and we had a great view of Dartmoor. Throughout our short stay both Amanda and Michael were very attentive and great hosts. The generous breakfast was very tasty with a wide choice of options and served by Michael with friendly banter!

There were many nice touches that showed the owners are very thoughtful towards their guests needs and we would certainly recommend this hotel to any visitor, including families who visit Dartmoor.

The good reviews here influenced our choice and we were not dissapointed. Amanda and Michael are friendly and helpful. The food is sumptuous and perfectly cooked (the cooked breakfast was to die for, if a little large for my petite wife; we had a lighter breakfast on the second day). The room was spotless of course with everything needed. The beds were probably the most comfortable we have slept in at a hotel as far as I can remember.

We were given a one night stay with 3 course evening meal as a present last year. I must admit I was not too sure about going for 1 evening, but my husband I had a lovely time.
We arrived early afternoon and were greeted by Amanda who welcomed us into the warmth of the bar area. She bought a tray with tea for 2 accompanied by scones with jam and cream which were delicious. When we had relaxed we were shown to our room. The room was clean and had everything that we could need for our stay. When we had settled our stuff in the room we found our way down to the bar where we were met by Michael. We had a drink from a well stocked bar and then went in for the evening meal.
The meal was delicious, we were informed beforehand about what was on the menu. I could not fault the service or the meal, which was exceptional and more than enough for us. Amanda does an amazing job in the kitchen.
Breakfast next morning was equally enjoyable. We would definitely recommned even for just 1 night.

Amanda and Michael were officially closed when we booked a weekend with them but they made us feel so welcome. We arrived to afternoon tea and delicious home made cake. Our rooms had fantastic views, were scrupulously clean and the beds lovely and comfortable. The showers were lovely and hot and there was plenty of water - not just the trickle you often find in this country. We were offered a home cooked meal but chose instead to take up the recommendation of local pubs where we had fantastic meals. We enjoyed lovely walks on Dartmoor and in the surrounding countryside. Amanda offered us maps and walks galore to chose from. Breakfast was delicious and despite the three of us choosing totally different options, it came piping hot, freshly cooked and really tasty.
We had a fantastic weekend and would recommend this place very highly.

Room Tip: We had the master bedroom - which was the largest room with lovely views. Our son had a regular doub...

When we arrived Michael the owner greeted us at the door before we even got out of the car, after some very friendly chit chat he invited us in and gave us coffee, a freshly brewed pot not instant.

After 10 to 15 minutes talking we were shown how to use the lock on the front door and shown to our room via a tour of the house.

Harrabeer itself is very old but with lots of character, its also very cosy especially when the new log burner is going full pelt heating the reception / bar area.

Amanda and Michael make a great team, they are both very accommodating and make you very welcome.

Amanda is very talented gastronomically producing food as good as that in expensive restaurants and I am surprised Michael isn't over weight as a result....

Our room was cosy and the bed very comfortable, I suffer with my back so this was good...

Shower room is through a walkway in the room and it is private to room 2 so no need to worry about sharing, the shower is very powerful and the cubicle spacious allowing you to move around freely unlike some smaller shower rooms I have used before.

If you want a country house break characteristic of Devon / Dartmoor then a stay with Amanda and Michael is a must, we are looking forward to a summer stay next year so we can benefit from better weather, hopefully!

Excellent accommodation, proper food and a good selection of drinks all at reasonable prices, oh and hospitality you can't buy! 10 out of 10

This is the second time we have stayed at the Harrabeer. This is a hotel in a million, all the reports written are so true. It's home from home with brilliant food and the most excellent of hosts. Close to Dartmoor and Plymouth, very close to Dartmoor zoo, a good centre to strike out across the moors.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.
