“charming house, great location and attentive owner”
Reviewed June 23, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

we rented Tilley's cottage for a week and found everything delightful. Nicely appointed with rich upholstered pieces and fine linens. Outstanding bathrooms with excellent water pressure and a grand location in the center of the village. The owner was prompt to address the small problem with the boiler pressure and we were completely satisfied with our stay

“Perfect location and beautifully thought out”
Reviewed May 31, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Great cottage...the furnishings and décor were of great quality and there were a lot of little touches that personalised this as a home - such as map and the ornaments and the cream tea on arrival.
The rooms were spacious and we had everything we needed. Comfy beds.
We really enjoyed the stay and look forward to booking again

“Well appointed cottage”
Reviewed May 21, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

This cottage has everything you could need for a holiday stay. Well decorated with enough space for 6 people and would be great in winter with enough central heating and a wood burner to boot. No garden which could be an issue if you have children but a bench to sit outside the back door. Would certainly book again.

“Amazing suprisingly affordable place to stay!!”
Reviewed February 12, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

I have just got back from this cottage on Monday.I went for a 3 night break to Devon with 4 friends. We all really enjoyed staying in this beautiful home. The rooms are immaculate and all well funished.Once we got the fire going we had a lovely time enjoying our homemade scones and cream. The other cupboard essentials were a great find too.The beds were comfortable and the house was snug as a bug.The local people in the village and surrounding area are all so lovely and friendly. I certainly found it difficult to pack and leave! We spent one day on a lovely walk though we didn't end up seeing Drogo Castle. And another day was spent paintballing. We really enjoyed our evenings in playing board games ( thanks Nikki) and just watching TV. We had everything we needed to make meals and delicious brunches, with all the right kitchenware indoors and Co-op outside. Thanks a lot Nikki for being so helpful throughout the booking process and even after.

The only downside was running out of loo roll (easily resolved) and the main bathroom loo needed a bit more of a clean to be really spotless.other then that I couldn't fault it and we would all happily stay here again.

“A beautiful cosy cottage in the heart of a friendly Devon village and minutes from beautiful countryside. LOVED it!”
Reviewed December 14, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

I recently booked Tilleys Cottage for a relaxing getaway with a group of my best girlfriends; looking for days spent roaming Dartmoor, and evenings snuggled by the fire with glasses of wine. And the cottage was everything we could have hoped for and more. We were welcomed with local cream teas and wood for the fire; the cottage was kitted out with everything we needed to feel at home immediately. The rooms were extremely comfy and clean, and Nikki was an absolutely lovely host; sorting out a minor water issue quickly and leaving us with a bottle of bubbly for the inconvenience!!

The village was really friendly, and we were all pleasantly surprised how it was both a close knit community but very welcoming to guests. The White Horse pub served stunning food (fantastic pizzas!) and we were lucky enough to be there on the night of the Christmas lights being switched off, in which we enjoyed carol singing and a pimms at the local art gallery.

We had left the cottage feeling refreshed and full of energy and have vowed to return again. It was amazing value for the size and location and by the end of our stay we had all grown attached to "our house"! Thanks again Nikki for a brilliant few days, and see you again soon!

“Perfect Dartmoor get away”
Reviewed December 8, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

I stayed at Tilley's over a long weekend with 5 friends, this was the perfect place for a chilled out girly weekend!

We all loved Tilley's and found it to be the perfect mix of country cottage and spacious the six of us never felt crammed in or on top of one another. The pictures don't do Tilley's justice, we arrived to fresh scones left out by Nikki, the perfect start to the weekend. The beds were lovely and comfy, the log fire was charming and the heating and hot water were brilliant. We did have a few problems with the boiler but one call to Nikki and it was sorted as soon as possible.

We all found Morton to be a charmingly beautiful village and the perfect location to get out to the moors and some of the other surrounding villages, we were never more than a 10 minute drive away. We were lucky enough to be staying during the Christmas lights switch on which really made us feel like part of the village as every one was so friendly and welcoming. Even giving us a brief history of Tilley's the old flower shop and the village itself. Nikki left a map of a half an hour walk around the village which I would really recommend doing, as within a couple of minute walk your out of the village and into open country complete with roaming Dartmoor sheep and cows!

I would defiantly recommend a meal at the village pub The Horse which has amazing hand made pizzas and all the charm you want in a country pub, the service was excellent even though it was busy and the staff were really friendly and welcoming.

Over all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tilley's and in Morton, it even convinced a few of us to take the plunge and move to Devon, well worth a visit.

“Dartmoor”

My Partner and I recently had a short break at Tilly's Cottage and I have to say that there are so many positives, the pictures shown on TA are perfect, all the amenities are as shown, excellent cooker, fridge, washing machine the bathroom is perfect (shower is incredible) Heating is great, the beds are outrageously comfy - and the Wifi is superb.

The one thing that really stands out is Nikki (who runs the cottage) absolutely awesome, very nice lady calls you before you arrive, made sure that we were so well taken care of even leaving us some home made scones with Cream and Jam upon our arrival I literally cannot say enough nice things about her, 10 out of 10 !!

I have a couple of negatives about the house is the TV 1) it is tiny you need binoculars to watch it from the sofa and 2) no Sky Subscription channels - which when you are used to them and you are watching several series is annoying (I am now catching up on about 15 hours of telly).

The other is that Mortonhampstead is far from a sleepy little Devonshire village, its actually quite a busy one, and downstairs there is no double glazing and the front door is paper thin, so you hear every conversation outside your house, I think that we were desperately unlucky on our stay - the Village shop was being refitted and the whole time we were there every single trade you can think of was parked outside our house, for the first two days all we could hear was drilling and hammering the construction workers were there from 9am to 7pm and then the next two day the shop was being re-stocked and it was lorry after lorry, then at night there were idiots driving up and down the high street in Subaru's with dump valve's going off until 2am. None of the above was anything to do with the people who run Tilly's nor does it detract from Tilly's being a really nice cottage but it really did ruin our stay.

Management Response
Nov 27, 2014
I am glad you found many aspects of your holiday to your liking but I wanted to comment on your experiences of Moretonhampstead which were not so favourable. I bought the cottage in 2007 because of its location and since that date it would appear our guests have grown to love the town and friendly locals by the endless comments in the visitors book. As you say you were incredibly unlucky as Moreton, despite being a small town, is generally quiet and restful, words used to describe the stay of the last two guests. Having the supermarket overhauled on your week did mean that it was chaotic and busy which would have changed the atmosphere while this essential work was carried out. However it is done and we are all enjoying a much improved shopping experience and Moreton is back to its usual pace. I hope you one day return and give Moreton another try as all our other guests have left enjoying its people, history, accommodation and restaurants. I do hope you managed to catch up on your TV viewing! Best wishes Nikki
