After sampling the other pretentious offerings around the town. this charming pub was a breath of fresh air! friendly welcome by host and wife. The food menu was simple. and appetising with plenty of specials on the wall and good selection of beers. Service was prompt & polite by a young lad who had been trained well.
Very tasty pub food honestly served by nice people.
Quite rare in these posh part
The only place in Moretonhamstead for a cheap, tasty meal.

We love going to this traditional pub as it ticks all the boxes. It is nicely presented with some interesting historical features. The outdoor seating area is pleasant and has animals to watch (for youngsters or like me, the young at heart). The menu covers a wide range of foods and is very reasonable. The staff are always welcoming and polite and good fun. There is also a nice selection of fruit wines to sample. This is a traditional pub with good pub grub and won't cost you a fortune. It is very popular with the local community and their dogs. They also provide a take away service which is helpful if you aren't able to have a night out!

What a lucky find we had, we popped in here when travelling around on holiday and I feel we lucked out. The food was wonderful- filling and delicious, the cost was so good and the environment was perfect. The staff were very helpful and friendly and it felt like we were in our local pub, so welcoming. There was a very short wait for the meal which was great as we have 2 young children.
If we are ever in the area again we'd love to re-visit.

Called in this little town on our way across Dartmoor in the hopes of finding somewhere to eat lunch. There is a surprising amount of choice so it was more luck than judgement that brought us to this inn.
Unfortunately we were driving so couldn't sample the excellent range of local beers but there was a great choice of soft drinks.
The menu says everything is homemade fare but you often find with pubs that most things just find their way from a freezer to a microwave or fryer. If that happens here, it's very well disguised!
We both had steak, ale & mushroom pie. This was brilliant pub food; a proper pie with homemade pastry & full of tasty beef & mushrooms with a delicious gravy. Not only that, there were 4 fresh veg & a boat of lovely onion gravy served with each meal.
The ONLY disappointment was that there was no way we could try the bread & butter pudding with clotted cream - it would have been wasted on us even if we'd shared a single portion.
I can definitely recommend it here, the service was quick & friendly, the toilets spotless & the pub seemed popular with the locals which has to be a good thing.
Only wish we'd been on a 10 mile hike first to do it real justice!

Had two meals for five and seven people respectively last week. Excellent standard of food and service. The pork and apple burgers were very well received- asked if we could buy some but told they were made in house. Second visit was on steak night - 2 rump steaks with trimmings for £15. All done as requested - succulent and tasty. The beer drinkers in the party were all impressed by the ales on offer and the excellent pool table. Also useful small car park at the side of the pub. Strongly recommend.
