Can't believe we stayed at the same place as described by some of the reviews! We were recently there for 3 nights - and wished we had been there for longer. The hotel is situated in a wooded valley in beautiful grounds. We found the staff to be most welcoming and we immediately felt relaxed. Our room was in the out-buildings and was adequate, spotless and serviced each day. The bathroom area had recently been re-furbished to a good standard. The food we had was excellent. For breakfast there was a good selection of cereals, juices etc which were self service with the rest of the menu being cooked to order from a wide selection (eg full english). We also ate dinner there on 3 evenings and again found the choice, quality and service to be fine.
As stated earlier, the hotel is in an 'away from it all' location and therefore a car is necessary. There are some lovely places to visit within a relatively short distance. We will certainly be returningfor more of the same!!

Room Tip: Talk to the staff re your requirements before booking.

We booked a 2 night stay with afternoon tea and wine if we ate in the hotel. A few days after booking I asked if our son and wife could stay but there was apparently no room, so they would join us in their van. (4 adults staying).
The first room was unacceptable as it was damp and smelt of mould. The receptionist said it had not been used for some time but gave us a set of family rooms under the clock tower. The cleaner was just finishing off and said she would come back to vac, she never did! The lounge was large with three bedrooms off, one double, one twin and one single. The bathroom was very old and minute and full of mould but we thought this must be the best they could come up with. As we were in this family accommodation we were allowed to have our family there for £20 each B & B.
The cleaner only made up the double bed the second day and did no cleaning of the bathroom and no hovering.
We were kept awake all night with the emersion heater firing up in our room, we sorted the timing in the morning and slept better after that but the sounds from above were very audible and the decoration was poor. It looked like the owner had done a do-it-yourself job on the whole of these buildings. All the rooms felt very cold and damp.
The ‘Manor’ is just a pub with a large conservatory and marque for weddings (wedding pictures throughout) there are 4 rooms in the ‘Manor’ and probably 8 across the drive. The drive and grounds are lovely and set at the bottom of a large wood-no good if you have hayfever!
The dinner was excellent with good service. Breakfast was made fresh on the first morning but the cleaner washed the flag floor during breakfast, this was then very slippery.
When we arrived back on Tuesday afternoon, the reception was closed and only a ‘mute’ barman on duty. He brought our afternoon tea without saying a word; however we could hear him talking to the chief so he could speak! The afternoon tea was very nice, just what we needed. However, breakfast the second morning was help yourself from the warming cabinet, not at all what we had expected.
Reception was still closed so the barman sorted out our bill. I was very happy to leave.

Room Tip: If you must go ask for a room in the 'Manor', perhaps that is not damp!

We stayed here for the 2nd time in 4 months. 1st time in April we had a nice clean room, number 23. Newly decorated and the bathroom was fresh and nicely tiled. Last week took friends back for a few days. Our friends had room 23 and we had the lower coach house. The title of our room sounded lovely but unfortunatly it did not deliver. The room in the coach house have not been decorated yet and sadly it shows. Our room was big with 2 double bedrooms and a single. Nice lounge area and if it was refurbished, which it badly needs would have been great. The bathroom was not good at all. It needs doing NOW! I completely agree with Ali another visitor about the noise. We could hear everything from the room above. Not so good when at 7am the children upstairs decided to jump everywhere around the room!! No peace! Such a shame as the place is stunning! We had lovely dinner in nice resturant and the breakfast was buffet style and nice. I would have liked option for more fruit & maybe pastries but thats me! If Lakeview could get their act together and refurbish NOW they are onto a golden winner as the stunning surroundings cannot be bought but lovely decorated rooms can! Having said this we would visit again but ask for a 'balcony' room as these have been done. Don't dismiss this beautiful place just ask for the right rooms until they have done the rest.

Room Tip: As i said, book a balcony room until they do refurbish the rest! Also if you get the lower coach house, they are family rooms, make sure there are to children in the upper! Very noisy!

Went here as two families and had two family rooms, ours was upstairs and we could hear everything from room below, sofa's was awful, the beds were so bad we felt the springs come through. Was left with back ache for two days. Fixtures and finishings were badly done, nothing special at all. I gave two stars for the location only and the well looked after gardens. There was a musty smell around and the staff were not that welcoming. Won't be in a rush to stay again.

We spent 2 nights here on a delacloud offer. The whole stay was truly fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had no problems at all. The breakfast was a buffet style and was good quality. The evening meal was top notch. It is a very peaceful and tranquil hotel. We would definitely go there again.
