“Beautiful campsite and theme park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013

Stayed here as part of my son's Cub Camp which I volunteered to help with and I'll admit I was dreading as I'm not a big lover of camping. However the campsite was beautifully maintained, lots of space for the kids to play games and not get in the way of other campers. There were electrical points, drinking water facilities, shower block and toilets so if you're not a fan of getting completely back to nature this Campsite will suit you. Easy walking distance of the theme park which of course kids of all ages love and considering we stayed on one of the hottest days this summer - plenty of shady playing areas under the trees. My only complaint was that on the second morning of our stay, the drinking water for the campsite was turned off - I'd heard a rumour it was because lots of campers were using it to fill up water pistols. If this was the case rather than it being a maintenance / technical problem then I do think that was quite irresponsible seeing as temperatures reached 30 degrees that weekend and we, along with other campers, had young children to try and keep hydrated. However, saying that, we had no problems with getting drinks bottles topped up with water for free down in the theme park after we explained the situation to the cafe staff. I would recommend this campsite very much and we are hoping to book again as a family.

Dear PlymouthPussycat,
Thank you for your kind words about our park, the Theme Park does add amazing value to your holiday and it’s great that you had the hot weather! The only reason the water would have been turned off would have been due to maintenance. It would not of been due to water pistols especially with the heat that we had. Our wardens are on duty 24 hours a day and are always willing to help with any problems you may have whilst you are on site. We hope you will visit us again soon!

My partner and I grabbed a mid week adult bargain Sunday - Friday, but were more than impressed with what we discovered! This little gem hiding in the forest is such a well run and well maintained camp-site we couldn't have been happier. We go camping at least twice a year in different places and this is probably the best site we have stayed at. All the team were very happy and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the wardens all work very hard. Can't wait to go back!

Just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the woodlands camping and caravan park. We took advantage of the very affordable £49 Sunday to Friday adult break.
The park is large and not the small campsite we would normally choose. I could imagine it being very busy in the school holiday season. However whilst we were there it was fairly quiet and mainly adults in campervans/caravans. The pitches are generous. We were somewhat surprised when asked to pitch our tent on an "all weather" pitch. This is a hard gritted area which you would normally expect a caravan/camper to be parked on. You are provided with a groundsheet to protect the tent. You do need very strong pegs and a mallet but its not a problem to hire the pegs and mallet for a refundable deposit of £30. The washrooms are spotless and plenty of hot water. The bonus of having free access to the adjoining theme park must be a godsend for families on a budget. We enjoyed the falconry show and looking at the animals and even plucked up courage to go on the water slides.
The surrounding countryside is stunning we really enjoyed visiting Dartmouth and the National Trust properties Greenway (Agatha Christie house) and Overbecks. Would recommend as lots to do in good or not so good weather.

Dear StephTaylor,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay with us. We’re really pleased that you thought our Adult Midweek Special offer was good value and you found ‘The washrooms are spotless and plenty of hot water’. Congratulations on riding the Watercoasters, it’s a great way to cool down in this heat wave!

Thanks again for the review and we hope you’ll visit us again!

We decided to try Woodlands Camping Park again, this time in school term, as my wife has retired from teaching, after being put off previously by camping site being overcrowded in school holidays, drunken parents searching for their children, vandalised games room and experienced a damaged caravan, due to unsupervised roudy children throwing stones. Many written complaints were conveniently ignored!

So after a 4 year gap we decided to see if things have changed and give my son and his very young family a treat, boys of 4 and 16 months and arrived w/c 15th June 2013 and found the facilities to be excellent, well maintained and clean, although the site was very quiet and relaxing at the begining. By Thursday the site started to fill up with groups of families arriving together and with many children absent from school.

The site became very noisy with excited children and drunken parents who could not careless what their children were up to. Despite the rules stating that noise levels should be lowered between 10.30pm and 8.00am, it went on until 1.00am and children playing ball games, kicking them against cars and caravans with totally no respect (yes, mine got another beating!) and waking up my Grandchildren. My eldest Grandson even witnessed a drunken woman being carried to the wash room by two other women at 7.00pm.

It is a great shame that this site could be a really great camp site, if it was designed a whole lot better and had facitlites for children to play games, with stricter rules and wardens patrolling the site at night to keep the parents under control and get them to take more responsibility with their own children. Rather than try to pack in as many campers as possible, take their money and let them get on with it!

I was glad to leave the camp site on Sunday morning, joining a mass exodus of weekenders, in readiness for the site to get back to a quite start again for the next week.

The hard standings and some access roads to pitches are covered in fine grit and this gets carried into the caravan, so annoying!

Lessons could easily be learned here from the professionally run The Caravan Club.

So if you dont mind having your caravan and car damaged by unsupervised children, kept awake until 1.00am and witnessing drunken behaviour, then this is the camp site for you!

Dear Mike B,

We’re concerned by your experience of our Caravan Park which certainly doesn’t seem to fit with our other reviews, firstly we would like to apologise for your experience 4 years ago and stress that most complaints go to our board of directors and responses are given.

We have wardens on duty every night who patrol the Caravan Park, but as explained at check in, you should make them aware of any concerning behaviour. We are a family campsite and we aim for everyone to enjoy their holiday, when the wardens are alerted to this sort of issue they make sure that any problems are addressed.

With the offer of Free Entry to Woodlands Family Theme Park we are a very popular site for families and groups at weekends and school holidays. We do not hide from this and if people ask for a quiet site we do openly tell them we are a large family campsite. We advise people that weekdays in term time is the best time to come if they seek peace and quiet when there are only a few units on site.

We apologise for the behaviour of other campers and the other irritations you found with our site, however unless our wardens are made aware of any problems whilst you are staying here they cannot sort them out for you.

The purpose of our campsite and theme park are here for people to enjoy and we want everyone who stays here to have a lovely holiday or day out.

Regards

Woodlands Grove

This is our second visit to woodlands and we once again had a lovely time.
This is definitely a place to go if you have children as there is free entry into the theme park which is excellent value for money and a great place for children.
The toilets and shower facilities are still just as good as on our first stay 2 years ago.
The only downside to our stay was that if you want an early night after a busy day it is almost impossible as children were still running around the campsite at 10pm which we didn't think was right and the person in the tent next to us played music until gone 10pm.
We understand that people are on holiday and want to have fun, however feel that music and children running around the camp should be limited after 830pm.
Despite this we would definitely return in the future

We really appreciate your kind words, thank you for taking the time to review our site. This is our second time at Woodlands. We will be coming back. The site is fantastic great spacious pitches. We had an all weather pitch and hired some rock pegs from reception refundable deposit so pegs were free. Made no difference then camping on grass. Facilities were fantastic. Great wash areas and only 20p for a bath not many campsites have baths. Showers in review below said cold but we had lovely warm showers. It is a large site with lots of families but this didn't bother us. The theme park is amazing and is included in the costs. We hardly got a chance to visit the local area as kids 3,9 and 11 just wanted to be in theme park. It was also open until it got dark so we could go and play with the play areas. Rides operated by staff were not open but it allowed the kids to burn off energy before bed. There is no play area on the campsite but with all the theme park below about 5 min walk it was fine and also meant less noise on the campsite. We had bbq's and went to Blackpool sands about 20mins away was beautiful. Would highly recommend the site well. Fantastic value holiday for everything that is included.
