We are always apprehensive when visiting famous restaurants or hotels as they have so much to live up to but this bistro is no disappointment at all.
From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable and we enjoyed a pre-lunch drink in very comfortable surroundings while perusing the menu which was short and didn't offer as many fish dishes as we had expected but we chose what was there and it was truly excellent - cooked to perfection and very well presented.
We wish now that we had been able to get a table at his Seafood Restaurant although it's hard to believe that the quality of food or service would have been any better - just the greater variety of fish dishes

We came here for lunch for my 30th birthday with a toddler in tow. The food is simple but based on great ingredients. The setting and atmosphere of this beautiful bistro, on the hill, left us fully satisfied. Staff were friendly and totally accommodating even with quite a high spirited child! Thanks for some great memories St Petroc!

The main Stein restaurants generously have special menus in support of charities for a few weeks every year. This year the charity was WaterAid and there was a three course menu for just under £15 including a £2 donation to WaterAid. Large glasses of wine were between £8 and £9. The service was professional and attentive (as one would expect in a Stein establishment). The starters (mussels and Toulouse sausage) were excellent. One main (hake) was well cooked and presented, the other (rump steak) was cooked too long and at too low a temperature which did not do a generously sized but ultimately tasteless gristly piece of meat any favours. The desserts (treacle tart) were delicious. Overall, an enjoyable experience despite the minor lapse in quality control - especially at the price.

We went during the Water Aid week and ate the set lunch. An interesting and varied menu and nicely presented food; good value but be warned extras can substantially bump up the total bill. Espresso at around £3.25 was strong but over-roasted.

Charming and prompt service.

Not in the same league as The Seafood Restaurant but worth a visit.

This was all in all a really lovely night filled with an excellent 14oz sirloin, great service and good atmosphere. The only thing I would say is that we where asked on booking if there are any special requirements etc to which I just mentioned my partner was a vegetarian. But unfortunately when we where given our menus the only vege starter was a cheese tart and the only vege main was a cheese tart to. Which to be honest we didn't think was very good in an establishment like this.
Thankfully like I say the food we did have was of excellent standard also including an apple and cider cake and would certainly still return.
On the whole many thanks!
