Stayed at Woodlands Country House for 1 sleepless night. The very basic mattress (which I had a close look at) seemed to consist of a piece of fabric with some coils of wire stuck on it with another piece of fabric stuck on top. The mattress was also stained and to make matters even worse it was sloping to where people have sat on the edge of the bed. It really was so bad that I was seriously considering sleeping on the floor but instead slept on top of the duvet to give some protection from those springs. I suggest that the owners of Woodlands try sleeping in the bed themselves. Obviously I would not stay at this 'hotel' again because it is a little irritating to pay £140 pounds to end up exhausted and with an aching back. However, the breakfast was delicious.

We are desperately sorry to hear of the reviewer’s uncomfortable night. It is, to say the least (after all our previous reviews) an immense shock. We have never, in ten years, had a complaint about comfort. It is a terrible shame this was not brought to our attention the following morning, but it is so typical of this nation to not complain at the time and Tripadviser has become a wonderful vehicle to complain anonymously. It is unbelievably unhelpful. Consequently, we have no idea what room the reviewer was in (the price indicates it was a Premier Room), we have been unable to offer any apology or recompense to them other than this reply. We are very proud of our reputation for comfort, this complaint has come as a terrible blow. We would be grateful if the reviewer would contact us so we know which bed they found uncomfortable. Our mattresses are top-of-the-line pocket-sprung mattresses and, bar two mattresses, are less than ten years old, most are less than five years old. All mattresses are turned regularly and treated once a year by Mattress Medics. Stains are guests spilling coffee and tea (or red wine) and anything more sinister is caught by a mattress protector. To then mark us down for value and service, was harsh considering no complaint was made to us. Did you get bad service as well? This review has come to us, and our lovely staff as a terrible shock and disappointment.

We recently enjoyed an excellent stay at the Woodlands Country House, it is a beautiful house and is nicely located just outside Padstow.

We were greeted by Pippa, who showed us all the various bits and pieces we needed to know, our room was very comfortable indeed with pleasant views over looking the farmland towards the sea.

As other people have mentioned, breakfast is something to savour for sure, all freshly cooked with a whole variety of other cereals, fruits and home baked banana bread, it is a meal in itself and sets you up for the day nicely - lunch maybe not required!

It was all very peaceful and quiet there, just how we like it, although Padstow is a very small town, the town centre can get a little noisy with all the tourists and day trippers, so the Woodlands is a nice retreat just outside.

The town is just under a mile away, which is an easy 20 minute walk.

We would certainly lover to return to the Woodlands in the future!

We had a lovely weekend at Woodlands County House. Pippa and Hugo who are the owners were extremely welcoming and the rooms were beautiful with views of the sea round the coast from Padstow. Breakfast was delicious, with lots of home made preserves and Hugo's famous museli. We would like to return again in the not too distant future.

We stayed here with our 2 year old and all our needs were catered for. Wonderful hosts and staff, nothing is too much trouble. Very clean. Breakfast was outstanding. We stayed in the Beach Room which was so spacious, the three of us could have slept in the bathroom if we had wanted to!! Lovely views and quiet room. All in all a wonderful place to stay.

We received a warm welcome from Pippa on arrival and I was stunned by the beauty of the house - the photos can't do it justice. We stayed in the Jade Room which was romantic and luxurious; not to mention the best tub ever with views across the countryside to the sea! The blue room is perfect for enjoying a drink from the honesty bar before heading out for dinner and so elegant. Breakfast was glorious and full of excellent produce. I cannot fault this place - we will return! Tip - Padstow is hellish in the summer holidays so try visiting out of season.

Thank you for the kind comments and we are delighted you enjoyed yourselves in The Jade Room. Padstow can be very 'buzzy' in the summer holidays but you can get away from it here at Woodlands Country House. Padstow can be 'buzzy' most of the year, come to that! We are only half a mile/ 15 minutes walk from the harbour and parking here is free, and much quieter.

Easy to find, comfortable rooms, made to feel welcome. Nice modern bath/shower rooms. Beds had duvets- (definite tick), real milk as well as local produce on tea tray in our room. EXCELLENT breakfast. Very nice owners. 5* for customer service and comfort. We will be back and hopefully bringing the sun with us next time.
