“Clean, cosy and comfortable!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

This is a cosy little b&b down a country lane, 5 min walk from padstow harbour. The location is ideal and has parking, which is a massive plus in padstow. The front of the b&b has beautiful views over the estuary and the owners have a gorgeous front garden adorned with flowers. We stayed in the back bedroom which unfortunately didn't have a view, but then we did book last minute and the other 2 bedrooms face over the estuary giving fantastic views. Our bedroom was a double with a super king bed (can also be split into twin beds). None of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, but the 2 bathrooms are very modern and clean. We were given the smaller bathroom which has a shower, toilet and wash sink. The larger one also includes a bath.
The bedroom was clean and comfortable with a t.v, wifi, plenty of wardrobe space (including hangers) and a dressing table with mirror. There are tea/coffee/hot choc making facilities in the room and you are left fresh milk in a flask each day along with a bottle of water. The breakfast is very good with cereals, toast, fresh fruit, yoghurt and juice on offer. You can have a pot of tea or fresh coffee and a full English breakfast which was delicious. The owner, Rosemary, certainly makes you feel at home and offers lots of advice on places to visit. Very good 2 star b&b which was good value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the b&b have fantastic views of the estuary and are probably a little quie...

Lovely little B&B within in a short walk of Padstow. Tucked away in a quiet location overlooking the sea. Three bedrooms, double, single and twin. Rosemary was very attentive and cooks a mean breakfast. The place was very clean, homely and bed very comfy. We had the twin which was converted into a huge double as zipped together. Downside is that room does not have a view of the sea (or anything really) but does have it's own shower room (not ensuite) down the landing. Taxi's are easy to source as ran by Rosemary's daughter next door. They ferry Rick Stein about when he is in town. One we can recommend and priced at a sensible rate.

Room Tip: Choose double or single at the front overlooking the sea.

I stayed in a twin room with a friend with shared facilities for one night at the end of a walking challenge along the coastal path. A good ten minute walk from the town centre the host Rosemary was welcoming but we felt like we were intruding into her home. The shared bathroom was very clean but bedroom was very small and dated but the bed was comfy! Breakfast is served in her lounge/dining room which is very small, very cosy and full of the owners personal belongings. Our biggest concern was that our bedroom had no lock or key!!!! When we asked Rosemary for a key she simply said we dont have them and in fact she leaves the house open!!! We were anxious leaving all our belongings in a room that is not locked and knowing other residents were staying at the same time. She was extremely helpful in arranging a taxi into Padstow which cost £4 and indeed the house was open when we returned at 2am after celebrating the end of our walk in Padstow! The only thing that stopped me from arranging somewhere else to stay was lack of time and sheer exhaustion and to be fair, Rosemary is a lovely lady who obviously still trusts everyone which is a lovely quality to have. I almost feel bad leaving this review but feel it is an important issue and something all visitors should be aware of. .

Having read your review, and noted your comments about the keys, I am taking action to remedy it, as you had telephoned me at 1.30 am to ask for a taxi yes the house was open at 2.0am in the morning, I didn’t want my other guest disturbed. Your comments about the rooms and furniture however, I find offensive , but am taking it with a pinch of salt; and remind you that Wingfield is a traditional small B and B , where you are staying in someone’s home , and not a guest house or boutique hotel ( which may have suited you better ) ,where no doubt the rooms would be very spacious , the furniture bland enough to cover all tastes , and a price that would be considerably higher than mine..

I spent a lovely two nights at Wingfield House in Padstow in April and I would definitely return! The bathroom was spotless, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in and Rosemary was a great host. Extra touches included torches and umbrellas for guests (both very useful). Padstow is well located as a base for exploring Cornwall. The foodie scene here is quite good as well and Windfield is a quick walk away from cycle rentals and the Camel cycling/ walking trail.

I came across Wingfield House via tripadvisor and got in touch with Rosemary based on the excellent reviews. I must say, I wasn't disappointed at all. Rosemary has impeccable knowledge of padstow and the surrounding areas, was such a great host and had a lovely cosy home. We had a room with stunning views over the estuary, and the house is less than a 5min walk to the start of the camel trail and the centre. Definitely not your standard bnb, what an amazing first experience in cornwall - *highly* recommended!

Should it rain, should it be dry
Should the sun shine in the sky
Every year we like to stay
At cosy Rosemary’s place
Where we like the gorgeous view.
Be like us the happy few
To enjoy her warm welcome.
To Padstow in Cornwall, come!
