Despite the cold weather and occasional snow flurry this trip will be remembered for the warm welcome and great service I received throughout my stay. Fantastic views across the Camel Estuary from our superbly appointed suite made this a very enjoyable short break. Bar prices were reasonable and the breakfast buffet was plentiful. Do ask about the availability of the white Land Rover as these guys offer superb taxi service to the surrounding area. Remember to pamper yourself and visit the Cowshed Spa, you will feel all the better for it. I think this is a great low season getaway destination.

Room Tip: Sea view is worth paying for.

Stayed there in last summer for a long weekend. The rooms are nicely furnished and the bed was one of the most comfy I have ever stayed in. However, our room didn't have air con in and backed onto the car park at the front of the hotel (as a lot of the rooms do). As such, when the window was open (as it had to be as there was no air con) the passing cars would wake you up at night. The restaurant in the hotel is very nice, but has no view of the coast what so ever, although there is an open kitchen. Tried to book treatments at the spar but it was fully booked!

Good bits:

- Lovely bed.
- Cliff walks/ the beach only a 5 min walk away (albeit down some narrow paths)
- Shuttle service to local places like Polzeath and Rock.

Bad bits:

- no air con.
- general lack of character as it seemed more like apartment blocks.
- over priced.

Tip:

- book spar treatments in advance (I'm talking months).

Room Tip: Request a room that doesn't back onto the carpark & book spar treatments in advance.

We stayed here very last minute, booking only the afternoon prior to our stay. From the initial booking on the phone to checking out, the service and attentiveness was faultless.

I immediately received a booking email confirmation detailing a person who we could contact prior and during our stay which we thought was a nice touch and could be useful.

On arrival we were disappointed to see that the foyer was being used for children's entertainment, however we checked-in and were shown to our room and shown where everything was which was helpful and again an indication of how attentive the service was.

We didn't use any of the facilities (pool, gym etc) so cannot comment on that, however from what I have heard from other people who have stayed - these facilities have also been faultless?

We ate in the restaurant and he food was lovely as was the breakfast in there the following morning. The staff could not have been more helpful or attentive. Although already slightly late for our evening dinner reservation, we were offered a drink in the bar first where the service was equally attentive.

Our biggest negative of our stay was the amount of children (most badly behaved) using the facilities at the hotel, and although not directly the fault of the hotel, we thought more could have been done to have "controlled" them.

A function room would have been advantageous in the hotel for events such as the 'children's hour' instead of walking into a foyer of screaming and excitable children. The restaurant was our biggest bug bare with children running around beyond 22:30, mostly while the parents were busy on their iPhones and iPads. It would have been nice to have seen children banned from the restaurant beyond 21:00!

Don't get me wrong i don't hate children-funnily enough I was once one! However when you are spending that much money both to stay and eat at the hotel I would have expected it to have been a little different.

I understand that the hotel needs to be family/child friendly particularly in this financial climate, although I think it also needs to keep up with the times. With this new generation of parents coming through who believe their little "brats" can do no wrong and have the right to stay up as long as possible and go wherever adults go, then some sort of control must be put in place.

Overall an amazing hotel with exceptional service and facilities. Spotless accommodation and other areas. Well worth the stay but just make sure you go outside of the school holidays if you are looking for a quiet get away.

This is a return visit to this hotel and it's actually even better this time round than a year ago. Which is pretty good as last visit was amazing.

Our room is spotless and really comfortable, all the hotel staff are unbelievably helpful and so child friendly that you just relax immediately.

The indoor pool is really clean and warm so perfect for the children.

The afternoon kids menu and mocktails are brilliant and have really been thought about properly. Plastic cups, small knives and forks - every detail covered.

The location of the hotel is amazing because you are right next to polzeath beach and about 5 mins drive from Rock.

I love this place, highly recommend it and can't wait to return.

My wife and I together with our 4-year old son stayed at the St. Moritz in a suite for four nights over the Easter holidays - a time when the sun was out most days, but the temperature still quite chilly.

This is a well maintained modern hotel within easy walking distance of the beach and coastal trail. It is also an easy walk to Polzeath Beach, the main surfing beach for the region. We arrived by train from London (4 1/2 hours from Paddington Station) and were met at Bodmin Parkway station by a hotel-arranged taxi for the 30 minute ride (£35) to the hotel. While it is not necessary to have a car while staying at the hotel (the hotel does provide free car service to restaurants and other venues in the immediate area), it would no doubt be desirable should you wish to venture much further afield.

Prior to our arrival, I had been contacted via e-mail by Britt Loe, the Guest Host for the hotel. She arranged our taxi service, made dinner reservations, scheduled a babysitter so my wife and I could have an evening out alone, and suggested a whole range of venues and activities we could explore during our stay. Britt was especially welcoming and very helpful - a real plus for the hotel. That said, all the staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. The fact that the owner-manager is always on site and ready to address any issues that may come up is also a plus for the hotel.

Understand that the hotel is not right on the beach or even right above the beach. It is about a 10 minute walk down the hill to the Coastal Path and on to the nearest beach. The ocean can be seen from the higher floors of the hotel, but not from the ground floor suites or the restaurant. This is not a problem as walking to the beach or down the hill to see the ocean is a matter of only a few minutes. We did this many times during out stay and our 4-year old led the way in both directions!

Our room (ground floor double suite with garden view) was a very well appointed suite with separate bedroom and a living room-dining room combination and a large, fully equipped kitchen. The room was immaculate and the furniture very comfortable, including the king size bed. The kitchen came equipped with stove, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer and washer/dryer together with all manner of kitchen utensils, pots, pans and dishes, toaster, microwave, electric hot water heater, coffee press and teapot. One could rely entirely on self-catering if desired as the kitchen is so well equipped. There is a large room safe in the bedroom closet as well as plenty of hanging closet space and drawers. We did think the John Lewis dresser was a bit cheap given the rest of the furnishings as the drawers did not have guides making sliding them in and out something of an inconvenience. The bathroom was fine, though there is perhaps insufficient space around the sink and the lighting could have been brighter. The Cowshed products were a nice touch and the big towels and bathrobes a definite plus. The extra bed for our son fit easily in the living room (at an extra charge of £25/night).

The indoor pool is quite nice and my son liked it immensely. The outdoor pool is big and looks very pleasant but due to the cold weather was not open during our stay. My wife availed herself of the Cowshed Spa and found the facial and massage to be up to her standards, so much so that she now intends to utilize the Cowshed Spa in London.

We ate all our breakfasts and one dinner in the hotel dining room as breakfast was included in the room rate. The breakfast buffet and hot dishes available on order were fine, though a variety of omelets and perhaps a bit more healthier fare would improve the offerings. The coffee, however, was consistently dreadful over the whole 4 days, even though brought to the table in an individual press. It got to the point where we would make our own coffee in the room rather than order it during the hotel breakfast.

Our one dinner in the hotel restaurant was good, much better than expected. The food was good -- the butternut squash soup was excellent, the fish was nicely cooked and the selection of local cheeses for dessert was very acceptable. The wine list was fine, offering a number of options, though a few more offerings by the glass would be an improvement. Also, keep in mind that the hotel positions itself as family friendly, so if you are planning on a romantic dinner with your spouse, a later reservation - particularly during school holidays -- is probably warranted in order to mitigate disturbance from nearby tables. There is also a large bar area just outside the restaurant where one can have a before or after dinner drink if desired.

All in all, a well run hotel, very comfortable and well located. We would recommend it to our friends.

Room Tip: First floor garden suites are very nice.
