Looking forward to our visit to Wadebridge, with good reviews on this restaurant, after careful choosing from the menu, my husband elected to have crab and prawns on the toasted sour dough bread with side salad and taco crisps £6.75, for myself Salmon Crab cakes with Thai salad and homemade chips £8.95.
When ordering I enquired about the Thai salad, expecting thin strips of cucumber, grated carrot, thinly sliced peppers, thinly cut onions covered in a lime based sauce, instead I was told it would be an ordinary salad covered in a Thai sauce. So what I received was a chunky mixed salad covered in sweet chilli sauce, the menu is misleading and should be changed.
The salmon crab cakes were absolutely tasteless, I was told they were made 'in house', in that case the chef needs to check them, they need to be 'tweeked', seasoning perhaps, the pink 'mush' needed something. Three fish cakes, smaller than golf balls, a salad and 10 homemade chips, I do not consider good value.
My husbands meal was better value with more taste, if one can excuse the fact that they were the smallest of prawns and very little evidence of crab meat, served on a chunk of wood, which we consider most unhygienic.
We mentioned our disappointment to the waitress whose terse response, that she would mention it to the chef, with the comment .... 'Nice to have feed-back' !!! ...... rather cheeky.
It is a sad reflection for our stay in North Devon, that we have only found two locations we could thoroughly recommend, one in Bude the other in Tresparrett.
Unfortunately we had to pay before eating or our card would be held 'hostage' in the till, perhaps this is why they like the money from the customers, before tasting their food ???
Price has never been a prime factor but value for what we spend is important, if we enjoy our meals, we return and sample more, this is a case of .......... 'We'll NOT be back'.!!
